It's time for another milestone - Apple has just announced that more than 100 million apps have been downloaded from the Mac App Store. Such a number was reached in less than a year, the first birthday of the online store with applications for Mac will not be celebrated until the beginning of January.

In the press release published by Apple, there is also some statistical data about the App Store, i.e. the store with applications for iOS devices. There are currently more than 500 applications on the App Store, and over 18 billion of them have already been downloaded. In addition, another billion is downloaded every month.

Although the iOS App Store reached the mark of one hundred million downloaded applications much earlier, in just three months, we must take into account that the Mac App Store has a smaller selection of applications, the user base is not as large and, above all, the Mac App Store is not the only way to download an application install on your computer. Therefore, we cannot consider the growth of the Mac App Store as a failure.

"In three years, the App Store has changed the way users download mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing established standards in the world of PC software," said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing. "With more than 100 million app downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing retailer of PC software in the world."

However, it is not only Apple employees who praise the success of their stores. The Mac App Store is acknowledged by developers as well. "The Mac App Store has completely changed the way we approach software development and distribution," says Saulius Dailide from the team behind the successful Pixelmator app. "Offering Pixelmator 2.0 exclusively on the Mac App Store allows us to release updates to our software more easily, keeping us ahead of the competition," adds Dailide.

"During the year we changed our distribution method and offer our djay app for Mac exclusively on the Mac App Store," says CEO of the algoridim development team, Karim Morsy. "Through a few clicks, djay for Mac is available to users in 123 countries around the world, something we would otherwise have no chance of achieving."
