Last week we celebrated the tenth anniversary of the iPad. Even before the first tablet from Apple officially hit the store shelves, those who watched the Grammys at the time could see it somewhat unplanned. Stephen Colbert, who moderated the event at the time, was responsible for the premature presentation of the iPad. When Colbert read the nominations on stage, he used an Apple iPad to do so – and he didn't hesitate to brag about it. For example, he asked rapper Jay-Z if he too had a tablet in his gift bag.

The truth is that Colbert "arranged" the iPad himself. Later, in an interview, he confided to journalists that he wanted the iPad immediately upon its introduction. In his quest to get his dream piece of electronics as soon as possible, Colbert, in his own words, even did not hesitate to approach Apple directly. “I said, 'I'm going to host the Grammys. Send me one and I'll take it on stage in my pocket,'" he recalled, adding that Apple only loaned him the iPad. One of the company's representatives allegedly brought an iPad backstage to Colbert, who borrowed it temporarily just for his performance and returned it immediately after the performance. "It was great," Colbert recalls.

Steve Jobs introduced the iPad to the public on January 27, 2010, and the tablet appeared on stage at the Grammy Awards on February 1. Apparently, the deal with Colbert happened very quickly, unexpectedly, and resulted in a relatively successful viral "advertisement", which also felt quite relaxed, natural and unforced. Adding to its authenticity was the fact that Colbert is widely known for his enthusiasm for Apple products.
