Due to the freshness of the update, there is no exact information about how the app works with the phone's battery. However, I can confirm from personal experience that there is definitely no such consumption as it was with the previous version of the application.
At medium brightness, medium volume and connected via WiFi, playing a twelve-minute video in 1080/60 took 4% of my battery. So this is a significant improvement from the last time. The phone also heats up significantly less during playback, which was another problem that many users complained about. However, I have the latest iOS 11.2 beta version installed on my phone. Yes, it works, but it is a streaming service, I mean only recorded videos, Streams generally work on the lock screen, I watch Twitch myself, in it I can choose whether I want video or just audio, and if I lock the phone, only the audio is played, to wipe the data.
