It's been less than two weeks since we wrote about a problem faced by all users who actively use the official YouTube application from Google. As it turned out, since a certain update, the update consumed a huge amount of battery, to such an extent that many users watched the battery drain by one percent per minute of playback. The power consumption problem was worse in iOS 11 than in the previous version. However, this should be the end, as an update is finally out that supposedly solves exactly this.

The update has been available since last night and is labeled 12.45. The official description claims that the developers managed to solve the battery consumption problem. Due to the freshness of the update, there is no exact information about how the app works with the phone's battery. However, I can confirm from personal experience that there is definitely no such consumption as it was with the previous version of the application.

At medium brightness, medium volume and connected via WiFi, playing a twelve-minute video in 1080/60 took 4% of my battery. So this is a significant improvement from the last time. The phone also heats up significantly less during playback, which was another problem that many users complained about. However, I have the latest iOS 11.2 beta version installed on my phone. Users using the public iOS release may have a different experience. Share them with us in the discussion.
