The Worldwide Developers Conference is a traditional event that Apple has been organizing since the 80s. From the name itself, it is obvious that it is aimed at developers. In recent years, however, it has also appealed to the general public. Even if the most watched event is the one in September with the presentation of the new iPhones, the most important one is WWDC.

The first ever WWDC was held in 1983 when Apple Basic was introduced, but it wasn't until 2002 that Apple started using the conference as the main launch pad for its new products. WWDC 2020 and WWDC 2021 were held as online-only conferences due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WWDC 2022 then invited developers and the press back to Apple Park for the first time in three years, although the pre-recorded presentation of news remained. As Apple announced yesterday, WWDC24 will be held from June 10, when the opening Keynote, the most watched part of the event, falls on this day.

The event is usually used to showcase new software and technologies in the macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS and, for the second time this year, visionOS operating system families. But WWDC is also an event for third-party software developers who work on apps for iPhones, iPads, Macs and other Apple devices. There are a lot of workshops and seminars. But for owners of Apple products, the event is important because they will learn what their existing devices will learn. It is with the introduction of new systems that we know how our iPhones and Macs and other devices will receive news in the form of updates and, moreover, for free, so without investing a single crown in a new product. After all, where would hardware be without software?

It also applies to hardware

We will certainly not see new iPhones here this year, even though in 2008 Apple announced not only the App Store but also the iPhone 3G at WWDC, a year later we saw the iPhone 3GS and in 2010 the iPhone 4. WWDC 2011 was, by the way, the last event it held Steve Jobs.

  • 2012 – MacBook Air, MacBook Pro with Retina display
  • 2013 - Mac Pro, MacBook Air, AirPort Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme
  • 2017 - iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac Pro, 10,5" iPad Pro, HomePod
  • 2019 - 3rd generation Mac Pro, Pro Display XDR
  • 2020 - Apple Silicon M series chips
  • 2022 – M2 MacBook Air, MacBook Pros
  • 2023 - M2 Ultra Mac Pro, Mac Studio, 15" MacBook Air, Apple Vision Pro

Expectations are certainly high this year, though perhaps a little less on the hardware front. The main draw will probably be iOS 18 and the form of artificial intelligence, but it will permeate the entire ecosystem of the company.
