Dan Pražák The new Smart Battery Case was one of the most anticipated accessories for last year's iPhones. In mid-January, i.e. four months after the introduction of the iPhone XS and XR, customers of the new version of the charging case from the Apple workshop they really did.
However, it was soon discovered that the Battery Case for the iPhone XS is not fully compatible with the iPhone X. After connecting the case, users a message appearedthat the accessory is not supported by the specific model and charging was not functional either. There were several solutions, but not everyone managed to solve the problem. In the Jablíčkára editorial office, we therefore decided to try out the new Battery Case and, above all, to test whether it is already compatible with the iPhone X or not. At the outset, we can tell you that the result is more positive than the initial assumptions indicated.
The iPhone X and iPhone XS have identical dimensions, so it was widely expected that the charging case for the XS would also be seamlessly compatible with the X model. However, as soon as Apple launched the new Smart Battery Case, the reality turned out to be different from the initial assumptions. The company itself lists the iPhone XS as the only compatible device in the product description on its website.
Whether the new Smart Battery Case is also compatible with the iPhone X was supposed to show only the first tests by journalists. However, they rushed in with the not-so-favorable information that after putting on and connecting the case, a message about incompatibility appears on the display, while charging itself does not work either.
Later it turned out that the solution was to restart the phone. However, some had to restore the entire system. Most were eventually helped by an update to iOS 12.1.3, which was in beta testing at the time.
Our experience
Because of all the confusion, we at Jablíčkář decided to test the new charging case and give you feedback on whether you can buy it even if you own an iPhone X. And the answer is quite simple: yes, you can.
In several days of testing, we did not encounter a single problem, and even during the first deployment, there was no error message and the package worked perfectly correctly. However, it should be noted that we have iOS 12.1.3 installed, which has since been released for all users. So it seems that just the latest update brings full compatibility of Smart Battery Case with iPhone X.
The system supports the new packaging in all directions. There is no problem with the battery indicators either - the remaining capacity is displayed both in the relevant widget and on the locked screen after connecting the charger. The Battery Case is able to provide the iPhone X with almost double the endurance - when the iPhone is completely discharged, the case charges it to 87% according to our tests, and that's in less than two hours.
Thanks to the identical dimensions, the iPhone X fits almost seamlessly in the case. The only difference is the number of vents for the speaker and microphone on the bottom, and the cut-out for the camera is slightly shifted - the lens is pushed to the left side, while there is free space on the right side. However, these are really negligible inaccuracies. For completeness, we also tested music playback, specifically whether the speakers are somehow muffled by the cover, and the volume was completely fine.

So if you want to buy the new Smart Battery Case for iPhone XS for your iPhone X, then you don't have to worry, the case will be fully compatible with the phone. However, we recommend updating to iOS 12.1.3 or later system version. Compared to the previous version, the new version of the case boasts a higher battery capacity and support for fast and wireless charging. We are preparing specific charging speed tests for review.
