The new Apple TV se has been selling since last week and it got to the first owners during the weekend. In the arrival of the 4th generation of a special set-top box from Apple, developers rightly see a great opportunity, and together with the start of sales, a number of them sent their "television" applications to the App Store.
We now bring you an overview of the most interesting games and applications that you should definitely not miss in the first days with the new Apple TV.
Hry
Geometry Wars 3 Dimensions Evolved
If you want to test the gaming potential of your Apple TV, one of the ideal games for this purpose is the title Geometry Wars 3 Dimensions Evolved. The game offers the same great soundtrack and perfect vector 3D graphics on Apple TV, which the version for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Mac is proud of.
The advantage is that it is a universal game for both tvOS and iOS. So if you already play it on iPhone or iPad, you can freely extend your gaming experience to tvOS and you won't have to pay again. A pleasant bonus is the possibility to synchronize game progress via the cloud.
Mr Jump
[youtube id=”kDPq7Ewrw3w” width=”620″ height=”350″]
Mr Jump is a popular game for both iPhone and iPad, which was even selected as an "Editor's Choice" by Apple employees this year. Moreover, it already boasts more than 15 million downloads, so there is no disputing its success. The creator of the title is now bringing his classic "jumper" to Apple TV, where the player will be able to use the special remote control that is included with the Apple set-top box. Fans of Mr. So Jump definitely has something to look forward to.
Rayman Adventures
[youtube id=”pRjXVjmb9nw” width=”620″ height=”350″]
Also worth paying attention to is the other Rayman Adventures jumper, which has also arrived on Apple TV. Interestingly, although we know Rayman from two iOS games, this title is not based on either of them. It's a stand-alone game that's exclusive to the Apple TV, at least for now.
Sketch Party TV
sketch party like many other games, it can run on Apple TV for a long time because it can be streamed to the TV via AirPlay. However, such a solution is not ideal and does not guarantee a perfect gaming experience. Content streamed in this way can unfortunately stutter, lag, etc.
However, developers are now bringing Sketch Party natively to Apple TV and taking the gaming experience to a whole new level. The imaginary drawing competition is delivered directly to the Apple TV hardware, so there is no lag or stutter due to wireless transmission. iPads and iPhones are now only used by the application as controllers on which users draw with the swipe of a finger.
Almost Impossible!
[youtube id=”MtSGcPZLSA4″ width=”620″ height=”350″]
For now, the last interesting piece that will arrive on Apple TV on the day of its premiere is the retro "jumper" Almost Impossible! Behind this action platformer is the well-known developer Dan Counsell, who works in the renowned studio Realmac Software, known for applications such as Clear, Typed, Ember or RapidWeaver.
The game Almost Impossible!, which with a price tag of €1,99 can be found in the App Store, is also coming to Mac in the near future.
More games
The popular platform game seems made for the TV screen jetpack Joyride. So it's great news that developers from the Halfbrick studio have brought the stick figure with a jetpack on his back to Apple TV in a flash. The same goes for the popular racing game Asphalt 8: Airborne or graphically successful game hits B a Shadowmatic.
There is also great potential in the game Disney Infinity and many players will certainly not miss another retro-hit Crossy Road. The "television version" of the legendary game also attracted a lot of attention Guitar Hero, which arrived on iOS only a few days ago. However, as part of its conference, Apple itself promoted it when introducing the Apple TV.
Application
Simplex
Plex is a very popular application on iOS, and its developers have already announced that they are working on a version for Apple TV. However, many people also access the popular Plex service through alternative applications from independent developers. One such application is Simplex, and the good news is that it will be available for users to download right from the first day of Apple TV's presence on the market.
Simplex allows users to stream Plex library content to Apple TV and its added value is a perfect UI. This faithfully mimics the iTunes experience, yet retains all the functionality of the original Plex.
Streaks Workout
Streaks is a brand new app that will become your daily workout companion. Thanks to this application, you will be able to project instructional images of all kinds of exercises directly on the TV and, above all, record your daily training activity in detail. The default goal that the app will prompt you to do is one workout every day. However, this goal can be modified depending on your personal options.
A very similar application is also worth paying attention to 7 Minute TV Workout. In addition, compared to the competitor Streaks Workout, it also offers instructional videos that allow you to imitate professional trainers during exercise and thus maximize the effectiveness of your own training.
Withing's Home
Withings brings a handy tool to Apple TV that complements the brand's popular security cameras. A special application allows owners of Withings cameras to watch up to four images at once on a single TV and thus have a perfect overview of what is happening in and around the house.
The app will be free to download.
Another application
Among other things, the large TV screen benefits from useful "catalogue" type applications, whose often perfect design and engaging user interface can thus stand out even more. One such application is airbnb, a tool for searching for private accommodation. You can now view and choose beautiful houses, apartments and rooms in which you will spend your business trip or vacation on TV.
In addition, a number of modern e-shops are gradually coming to Apple TV, but for the time being they are only foreign shops (e.g. applies) and unusable in our country. However, it is only a matter of time before we too will be able to choose goods via television.
The Apple TV is also a great opportunity for all kinds of applications with media content, such as Hulu or Netflix. However, these services are not yet available here. However, Bohemia will be pleased that it is coming to Apple TV Periscope from Twitter. You will be able to view live broadcasts from users all over the world on the big screen. Unfortunately, the application is currently limited to that, and the developers do not allow you to log in to your own account on Apple TV. You will not see the streams of your friends, but a general offer of popular broadcasts.
So this is a taste of what applications the new Apple TV will bring, which for the first time in its history will also offer its own App Store. Apps and games are sure to increase rapidly and it will be interesting to see how developers deal with this new opportunity. If you know of other interesting apps for Apple TV, please let us know in the comments.
Hooray, 8-bit graphics are back on Apple TV :)
Otherwise, I would be interested in what the prices of these applications are?
Those games are absolutely horrible, and that's an understatement.
I will buy an Apple TV 4 as soon as it becomes clear how it is with the Siri controller. But these apps look like hastily whipped up the night before the sales launch :)
Siri does not work in the Czech distribution, only Apple TV purchased in the USA, UK, Germany, Spain, Japan, France, Canada, Australia will have a functional Siri. Apple must have found some surveys of knowledge of English in CR :D
I live in Austria and we speak German and English at home. It will arrive from Germany this week, so I'm curious.
Exactly as the discussants below me write. Crazy. If you want to have more fun, buy an Atari 800XL on Aukra. The graphics are similar, the price is ten times new.
I am reporting with my Czech contribution.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtZoMuatnhA
The game is not new.. It has been successfully traveling the world for 2 years, I spent 2 months remaking it for Apple TV
Dense! Good luck!!
So what bothers me the most is that while others (Android, MS) tend to merge the OSes, Apple goes the opposite way and we actually already have 4 AppStores, and that's not counting the fact that some iOS applications are still divided into iPhone and iPad. I understand their point of view, they will earn several times, but my point of view as a user is, to put it mildly, embarrassed.
Most Apple TV apps are sold in one package with the corresponding iOS app, eliminating the need to pay extra. If you have a game or application purchased on iOS, you can already play it on your TV for free.
It's a shame they won't move the previous generation ATV anywhere. I think the used HW could handle a little more...
I'm not familiar with AppleTV, how does it work with internet, I mean Safari or some browser? Any chance someone will make a browser app for TVos now or is it just games and media?
I use the iPad screen streaming, i.e. also Safari. I have the previous generation and as far as I know there is no viewer, I can't even imagine how it would be controlled with the help of the controller. In the same way, I find it more convenient to play games via the iPad and streaming images to the TV. I would really like to finally see the range of services that are available abroad (Netflix, etc.) be expanded, or new ones created... I see potential in that
Not on previous generations, here I'd bet they'll port FF/Chrome when the app supports it, because the WebKit Framework will definitely support it. Apple probably won't get into the matter of porting Safari right away, when its console, which could do it in 96, was a flop...
I wonder if Apple TV is capable of software. 4K upgrade.
Probably not. Apple TV has HDMI 1.4 which supports 4K/30Hz but not 4K/60Hz. Furthermore, HDMI 1.4 does not support HDCP 2.2 protection, which is the standard for 4K distribution (only HDMI 2.0 supports this).
Just wondering how the controller turned out in the end? Is the one delivered with SIRI or the one "without SIRI" ??? When I got the link that it was already on sale, they didn't write anything there (not even under the offer, as is usual) and the pictures showed SIRI.
Thank you
I got an Apple TV yesterday and there is a normal Siri remote. However, in the Czech environment of the system, Siri is blocked and it is not possible to select another language, e.g. English :(
Buying Apple and living in the Czech Republic is a strange thing. We earn less, we buy more, and in the end we can only use the product to a limited extent because some content is prohibited for our market. And we don't even get US quality support and service :(
The saddest part is that Apple here has probably one of the best services I know (I only have the worst experience with them), although it doesn't even reach the ankles of the US quality... I hear from the surrounding area that Lenovo or HP have just exploded...
Great thanks, so it's a SW problem, which I like better than having to buy the controller again in the future.
