Apple released watchOS 5.1.1 to the public a little while ago. This is a minor update that mainly solves a problem with the update process. When installing the previous one Watch 5.1 namely, several Apple Watch owners were affected by an error that required them to take the watch in for service. Apple was thus forced to withdraw the update after a few hours and only now comes with a replacement version.

The new watchOS 5.1.1 basically does not bring any news compared to its previous version, that is, except for the mentioned correction of the error installation process. Just like watchOS 5.1, the Apple Watch is enriched with group FaceTime audio calls for up to 32 participants, more than 70 new emoticons and also with new colored watch faces. There are also several bug fixes and improvements to existing features.

You can update your Apple Watch in the app Watch on the iPhone, where in the section My watch just go to In general -> Software update. For the Apple Watch Series 2, you need to download a 133 MB installation package.

What's new in watchOS 5.1.1:

  • If you don't move for a minute after suffering a severe fall, Apple Watch Series 4 will automatically contact emergency services and play a message to inform first responders of the detected fall and, if possible, your location
  • Fixed an issue that could cause incomplete installation of the Radio application for some users
  • Addressed an issue that prevented some users from sending or receiving invitations in the Broadcaster app
  • Addressed an issue that prevented some users from displaying previously earned awards in the Awards panel in the Activity app
