Some time ago we informed you about the release of the jailbreak for the iOS 4.2.1 update. For most devices, it was a tethered jailbreak, meaning you had to boot after every restart of the device. Now the untethered version has finally been released, for which we bring this guide.

The hacker team Chronic Dev Team is behind the current version. He found a new security hole in iOS and released the greenpois0n jailbreak. They fulfilled the promise that they are working intensively on the untethered version. There was constant speculation about the release until it finally saw the light of day at the beginning of February.

In the meantime, some of greenpois0n's bugs have been fixed, as evidenced by the recent release of the RC6 update. The supported devices are: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation, Apple TV 2nd generation.

How to jailbreak

We will need:

  • Connected iDevices,
  • A computer with Mac OS or Windows,
  • The greenpois0n application.

1. Download the greenpois0n app

Open the page in your internet browser, select your operating system version and click to download the application.

2. Storage, unpacking

Save the file to your desktop, where we will unzip it. Then we run greenpois0n.

3. Preparation

After starting, connect the iDevice, or leave it for the last backup in iTunes, then turn off the device.

4.Jailbreak

After turning off your device, click the Jailbreak button in the app. Now follow the instructions given in the greenpois0n program. First you need to perform DFU mode.

5. DFU mode

We can get into that mode with a few simple steps. We start by holding the sleep button (sleep button) with the device turned off for three seconds.

After that, we continue to hold that button, to which we also press and hold the desktop button (home button). Hold both buttons for 10 seconds.

After this time, let go of the sleep button, but continue to hold the desktop button until greenpois0n reacts.

So there's nothing to worry about, plus the jailbreak app will guide you on its own.

6. Wait

At this stage, just wait for a while and the jailbreak is done. Now let's move on to the final steps directly on the iDevice.

7. Loader, installation of Cydia

After your device boots up, you will see an icon called Loader on your desktop. Run it, select Cydia and let it install (if you want to).

Once installed, you can easily remove the Loader.

8. Done

The last step is to reboot your jailbroken device.

If you have any problems with this guide, which I hope you don't, please let us know in the comments. Please note in advance that you jailbreak at your own risk. Sometimes there may be problems, but most of the time it's nothing that DFU mode can't solve.

(The greenpois0n.com page is currently unavailable, most likely due to an application update. However, it will surely be back in full operation soon so that users can download the latest jailbreak version. - editor's note)
