In the community of apple lovers, the new iPhone 14 (Pro) and the trio of Apple Watch models are now being discussed. Despite this, fans do not forget about the expected products, the presentation of which is literally around the corner. In this context, we are of course talking about the expected iPad Pro, which should boast the newer Apple M2 chipset from the Apple Silicon family and a number of other interesting gadgets.

Although it is not yet clear when exactly Apple will reveal the new generation iPad Pro (2022), we still have a number of leaks and information at our disposal. In this article, we will therefore shed light on all the news that the new professional apple tablet could offer and what we can actually expect from it.

Chipset and performance

First of all, let's focus on the chipset itself. As we have already indicated above, the most fundamental innovation of the expected iPad Pro is supposed to be the deployment of a newer Apple M2 chip. It belongs to the Apple Silicon family and can be found, for example, in the redesigned MacBook Air (2022) or 13″ MacBook Pro (2022). The existing iPad Pro relies on the already relatively powerful and efficient M1 chip. However, the move to the newer M2 version, which offers an 8-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU, could bring an even bigger shift in performance and overall efficiency to iPadOS 16.

This also goes hand in hand with an earlier August report shared by renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. According to him, Apple is planning to equip the new iPad Pro with a newer and more powerful chip. However, he did not mention what it would be - he only said that for the time being it will not be a chip with a 3nm production process, which was mentioned by even older speculations. Such a model should not arrive until 2023 at the earliest.

In terms of performance, the expected iPad Pro will clearly improve. Even so, the question is whether users can even notice this progress. As we mentioned above, the current generation offers a powerful Apple M1 (Apple Silicon) chipset. Unfortunately, he cannot use it to the full due to limitations on the part of the operating system. Therefore, users would rather see fundamental changes within iPadOS than a more powerful chip, specifically in favor of multitasking or the ability to work with windows. In this regard, the current hope is a novelty called Stage Manager. It finally brings a certain way of multitasking to iPads as well.

Display

A number of question marks hang over the display and its technology. Currently, the 11″ model relies on an LCD LED display labeled Liquid Retina, while the 12,9″ iPad Pro is equipped with more advanced technology in the form of a Mini-LED display, which Apple refers to as a Liquid Retina XDR display. Specifically, Liquid Retina XDR is significantly better thanks to its technology, and it even has ProMotion, or up to 120Hz refresh rate. It is therefore logical to expect that the 11″ model will also get the same display this year. At least that's what the first speculations were talking about. However, in connection with the latest leaks, this opinion is abandoned and for the time being it rather looks like no changes await us in the field of the display.

On the other hand, there are also reports that Apple is going to move the displays one step further. According to this information, we should expect the arrival of OLED panels, which the Cupertino giant already uses in the case of its iPhones and Apple Watch. However, we should approach these speculations with more caution. More reliable reports expect such a change only in 2024 at the earliest. According to respected sources, there will be no, at least fundamental, changes in the field of displays.

Sizes and design

Likewise, the sizes should not change either. Apparently, Apple should stick to the old ways and introduce a pair of iPad Pros, which will have 11″ and 12,9″ display diagonals. However, it must be mentioned that there have been a number of leaks mentioning the arrival of an Apple tablet with a 14″ screen. However, such a model will probably not have a Mini-LED display with ProMotion, according to which we can conclude that it is quite possibly not a Pro model as such. However, we are still far from the introduction of such an iPad.

The overall design and execution are also related to the same display sizes. No big changes await us in this regard either. According to available information, Apple plans to bet on an identical design and color scheme. With regard to the subject, there is only speculation about the potential narrowing of the side bezels around the display. However, what is a little more interesting is the news about the arrival of the iPad Pro with a titanium body. Apparently, Apple is planning to come to the market with a model whose body will be made of titanium instead of aluminum, similar to the case of the Apple Watch Series 8. Unfortunately, we will not see this news for the time being. Apple is probably saving it for years to come.

Charging, MagSafe and storage

A lot of speculation also revolves around the charging of the device itself. Earlier, Mark Gurman, a reporter from the Bloomberg portal, said that Apple plans to implement the MagSafe technology from the iPhone for wireless charging. But it is no longer clear whether in this case we will also see an increase in the maximum power from the current 15 W. At the same time, there is also talk of possible support for reverse charging or the arrival of a brand new 4-pin Smart Connector, which should apparently replace the current 3-pin connector.

Storage also received attention. The storage of the current iPad Pro series starts at 128 GB and can be increased up to a total of 2 TB. However, due to the quality of today's multimedia files, Apple users have begun to speculate whether Apple will consider increasing the basic storage from the mentioned 128 GB to 256 GB, as is the case with Apple Mac computers, for example. Whether this change will happen is completely unclear for the time being, as it is just speculation on the part of the users and fans themselves.

Price and availability

In the end, let's shine a light on the most important thing, or how much the new iPad Pro (2022) will actually cost. In this regard, it is a little more complicated. According to various reports, the price tags for the United States will not change. The iPad Pro 11″ will therefore still cost $799, the iPad Pro 12,9″ will cost $1099. But it probably won't be so happy in the surrounding world. Due to global inflation, prices can therefore be expected to rise. After all, the same is the case with the newly introduced iPhone 14 (Pro). After all, we can show this by comparing the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro. Both models cost $999 after their introduction in Apple's homeland. But prices in Europe are already fundamentally different. For example, last year you could buy an iPhone 13 Pro for CZK 28, while now the iPhone 990 Pro, although its "American price" is still the same, will cost you CZK 14. Since the price increase applies to the whole of Europe, it can also be expected in the case of the expected iPad Pros.

As for the presentation itself, the question is how Apple will actually pursue it. The initial leaks clearly speak of an October revelation. However, it is possible that due to supply chain delays, the Apple keynote will have to be postponed until later. Despite these uncertainties, respected sources agree on one thing - the new iPad Pro (2022) will be introduced to the world this year.
