We are less than two months away from WWDC22, which will begin on June 6 with the opening Keynote. We will also learn about the new operating systems for Apple devices, i.e. not only iOS 16, iPadOS 16, tvOS 16, macOS 13, but also watchOS 9. Of course, we do not know what news the company is planning for our Apple Watch, but some information they are starting to surface after all.

When will watchOS 9 be available?

Since we won't see the show until June 6, the typical round of beta testing will follow. Experienced developers will get the option first, then the public (watchOS 8 has been available for public beta testing since July 1, 2021), and the sharp version will arrive in the fall of this year, most likely together with the Apple Watch Series 8.

Device compatibility with watchOS 9

Since watchOS 8 is also supported by the Apple Watch Series 3, it is very likely that owners of any newer models will be able to install the new system on their devices without any problems. This of course also applies to the SE model. While the company is then expected to stop selling the Apple Watch Series 3, it cannot afford to cut software support for them immediately. It would mean that if you bought this watch now, you wouldn't be able to update it in the fall, and that's definitely not Apple's approach.

New features in watchOS 9

Nothing is certain, nothing is confirmed, so here we only present what is more likely to be speculated about. The latest news is that watchOS 9 should get low saving mode. iPhones, iPads and MacBooks have them, so it would make a lot of sense. And since Apple's smartwatch battery life is what users complain about the most, this would be great news indeed.

There is also a lot of talk about the app Health. This is quite complex on iPhones because it combines all health measurements, but on the Apple Watch you have your own application for each measurement. You would thus have an overview of everything in the unified Zdraví. There is also speculation about a function reminiscent of regular medication.

They are generally expected again new dials, and also that there will be more new exercises along with improving the measurements of the existing ones to make the results even more accurate. ECG analysis should also be improved, especially for more accurate determination of possible atrial fibrillation. The possibilities of measuring body temperature and blood sugar content are also discussed a lot. It is not excluded that these functions will come together with the new Apple Watch, but since they will be functions reserved exclusively for them, they will certainly not be talked about at WWDC22, because that would reveal what Apple actually has in store for us in the new hardware.
