In addition to the new iPads and the Apple Watch Series 6, before yesterday's Apple conference, there were speculations about the new Apple Watch, which should be the ticket to the world of smart watches from Apple. It was assumed that this watch would not offer as many features as the high-end Series 6, but instead should be much cheaper. It turned out that these speculations were indeed true, and alongside the Series 6 we also saw the introduction of the cheaper Apple Watch, which was named SE after the iPhone. You can read about the parameters of the watch and whether it is worth buying it, along with other information, in this article.
Design, sizes and execution
The new model is based on the Apple Watch Series 4 and Series 5, so in terms of design, you will not be surprised. The same applies to sizes, Apple offers watches in 40 and 44 mm versions. This is good news especially for those who are switching from an older generation, as the product is also compatible with straps that fit the smaller 38 mm version or the larger 42 mm version. The watch will be offered in space gray, silver and gold, so Apple did not experiment with colors in the case of the Apple Watch SE and opted for a proven standard. There is also water resistance, which Apple states, as with all Apple Watches in its portfolio, to a depth of 50 meters. So you don't have to worry that the watch could be damaged during swimming - of course, if you don't have it damaged. Just like its predecessors, the Apple Watch SE will only be offered in the Czech Republic in an aluminum version, unfortunately we still won't see the steel version with LTE.
Hardware and special features
The Apple Watch SE is powered by the Apple S5 processor found in the Series 5 - but it is said to be only a renamed S4 chip from the Series 4. As for storage, the watch is offered in a 32 GB version, which in other words means that it's really hard to fill them with all your data. If we were to focus on the sensors, there is a gyroscope, accelerometer, GPS, heart rate monitor and/or compass. On the contrary, what you would look for in vain in the Apple Watch SE is the Always-On display from the Apple Watch Series 5, the sensor for measuring blood oxygenation from the latest Series 6 or the ECG, which you can find in both Series 4 watches and later. On the contrary, you will be pleased with the Fall Detection function or the possibility of an emergency call. So if you would like to dedicate the model to someone with health problems, or if you have these problems yourself, then the Apple Watch SE will definitely help you.
Price and resume
The biggest attraction of the watch is probably the price, which starts at CZK 7 for the 990mm version and ends at CZK 40 for the watch with a 8mm body. In other words, this product will not significantly increase your wallet. However, there is nothing to be surprised about, as the Apple Watch SE lacks many interesting functions. In my opinion, however, most of the useful ones are available - how many of us, for example, do an EKG every day? Sure, you can get a refurbished Apple Watch Series 790 for a similar price that offers Always On display and ECG, but if you don't want Always On or ECG and want a brand new model, the Apple Watch SE is right for you. In any case, it is not a revolution, rather a "recycled" pieced together from the 44th and 5th generation, but this does not detract from the quality of the product, and we at the editorial office are 4% sure that the Apple Watch SE will certainly find its buyers, similar to the in the case of the immensely popular iPhone SE.
Personally, I think that having an EKG sensor with you all the time, anywhere and at any time, is pointless for the vast majority of users. It's a nice feature, but it doesn't work by itself, and how often do users run it? I would see this more as a household item - one for the whole family, of course connected with other functions and with the distinction of individual users, as e.g. a smart scale does. Be that as it may, it is in the watch, and it may be useful for a certain (small) part of users, but for young people, it is just an additional matter, without which they can do without problems. It might be the same with the blood oxygen sensor, but only practice will show that. Almost the only significant difference between Watch 6 and SE will be the Always On display for many users, the other details will be more or less negligible for them. Is it worth the extra 3,5 thousand crowns? Sure, still design. This is where Apple should have added a little. The Watch SE would be much more attractive in a wider color range. After all, we won't buy a Watch for children at a price of over 11, when the ones for 8 will be more than enough for them. But why aren't they in red? Damage.
