Almost exactly a year after it was initially rejected, Valve officially put its Steam Link app on the App Store this week. Steam Link for iOS is meant to "bring the desktop gaming experience to your iPhone or iPad," according to Valve.

Around this time last year, news broke that Apple had refused to release the Steam Link app on its App Store. This was most likely because the application appeared to be in violation of the rule against the distribution of applications that themselves allow the purchase of other software. In addition, Phil Schiller indicated in one of his emails that the app violated a number of other regulations regarding user-generated content, in-app purchases, and content codes.

However, discussions between Valve and Apple eventually led to a successful resolution of the matter, and Steam Link is now finally available for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Steam Link for iOS allows players to visit their Steam game library from their iOS device, connected wirelessly to a Mac running the Steam client.

After connecting the two devices, the Steam application environment starts to be mirrored on the display of the given iOS device, from where the user can easily control not only Steam as such, but also individual games. They can also possibly be controlled with a connected controller. Steam Link for iOS requires a device running iOS 10 or later and a computer running the Steam client, and both devices must be connected to the same local network.
