Press Release: The arrival of the AI-powered search engine ChatGPT has taken the world by storm in recent weeks. Many see AI as the beginning of a new technological revolution, and technology companies have thus begun the battle for this sector. Microsoft and Alphabet (Google) seem to be the leading players at the moment. Which of them has a better chance of dominance? And is AI really as revolutionary as it seems at first glance? Tomáš Vranka has already created on this topic the second report, this time focused only on these two leading companies.

How did the battle of the AI giants begin?

Although it may seem that AI appeared literally out of nowhere recently, large technology companies led by Microsoft and Alphabet have been working on these projects for a long time (for a summary of all the big AI players, see the report How to invest in artificial intelligence). Google in particular has long been considered one of the leaders in the AI sector. But he delayed its implementation for a long time, thanks to his leading position in the field of search engines, he simply did not need to risk introducing any fundamental changes.

But Microsoft changed everything with its announcement that it intends to implement AI in its Bing search engine. Thanks to Microsoft's investment in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, the company no doubt has the technology to roll it out, and given Bing's very low popularity, they basically have nothing to lose. Microsoft thus decided to declare a war on AI by officially introducing its AI search services. The whole event was brilliantly planned and caused quite a stir in the ranks of Alphabet, who hastily decided to respond with their own presentation. But it was not very successful, it showed hasty planning, and even the introduction of their AI search engine called Bard was not without problems.

The shortcomings and problems of artificial intelligence

Despite all the initial enthusiasm, however, criticism of AI search engines began to appear. Just for example  the Google presentation pointed out possible inaccuracies in the answers. A huge problem is also the price of the search itself, which is several times more expensive than a classic search. A big problem is also the debate about copyright, where according to some creators AI will cause a loss of their profits for the creation of materials, as people will visit the sites themselves less. This also involves the issue of regulation. Big Tech is often criticized for treating creators and smaller companies unfairly. In addition, AI can easily be used to spread disinformation, which governments are fighting against. This list is only the tip of the iceberg, so the future of AI may not be as bright as expected, and it can mean a lot of problems for the companies themselves.

What to expect in the near future?

Both Alphabet and Microsoft are undoubtedly well on their way to dominating the sector. Microsoft handled the initial kicking well, but even Alphabet as the market leader cannot be underestimated. Although Google's presentation was not very successful, according to available information, their Bard could be technologically much more powerful than the current ChatGPT. It is probably still too early to announce the winner, but if you want to find out more about this topic, the entire report "The War on Artificial Intelligence" is available for free here: https://cz.xtb.com/valka-umele-inteligence
