It's been a few days since we last had an honest summary from the tech world. After all, news was scarce and the only adept was Apple, which enjoyed its 15 minutes of fame thanks to a special conference where the company demonstrated the first chip from the Apple Silicon series. But now it's time to give space to other giants, whether it's the biotechnology company Moderna, SpaceX, which is sending one rocket after another into space, or Microsoft and its troubles with the delivery of the new Xbox. Therefore, we will not delay any longer and will immediately plunge into the whirlwind of events, which took a rather large turn at the beginning of the new week.

Moderna overtakes Pfizer. The fight for vaccine supremacy is just getting started

Although it might seem that this news applies exclusively to a different sector than the technology sector, this is not the case. The connection between technology and the biopharmaceutical industry is closer than ever and, especially in today's difficult pandemic, it is necessary to inform about similar facts. Either way, it's been a few days since the American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer boasted the first vaccine against the disease COVID-19, which exceeded 90% effectiveness. It didn't take long, however, and an equally famous competitor, namely the company Moderna, which claimed even 94.5% efficiency, made a stir, i.e. more than Pfizer. Despite the research that was conducted on a larger sample of patients and volunteers.

We waited almost a year for the vaccine, but the huge investments paid off. It is precisely the competitive environment that will help get the vaccine to the market as soon as possible and without unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles. After all, many bad speakers object that most drugs are tested for several years and take a relatively long time before they are tested on people, however, the current situation can only be solved with unconventional and unorthodox methods, which even giants like Pfizer and Moderna are aware of. Dr. Anthony Fauci, chairman of the United States Office of Infectious Diseases, acknowledged the rapid breakthrough in development. We will see whether the vaccine will really reach the patients in need and ensure a smooth process in the coming months.

Microsoft is running out of Xbox Series X. Those interested may have to wait until next year

The situation that Japan's Sony warned of several months in advance has finally come true. Next-generation consoles in the form of the PlayStation 5 are in short supply, and existing units have sold out like hotcakes, leaving those interested with two options - pay extra for a bargain-basement version from a reseller and swallow your pride, or wait until at least February next year. Most fans understandably prefer the second option and try not to envy the lucky ones who have already taken home the next-gen console. And although until recently Xbox lovers laughed at Sony and boasted that they were not in a similar situation, there are two sides to every coin, and Microsoft fans will probably be the same as the competition.

Microsoft made a rather unflattering comment on the delivery of new units, and both with regard to the more powerful and premium Xbox Series X and the cheaper Xbox Series S, in both cases the console is just as scarce as the PlayStation 5. After all, this was confirmed by CEO Tim Stuart , according to which the situation will escalate especially before Christmas and interested parties who did not manage to pre-order in time will probably be out of luck until the beginning of next year. In general, analysts and experts agree that the belated Christmas present for console players will not arrive until March or April. So we can only hope for a miracle and have faith that Sony and Microsoft will manage to reverse this unpleasant trend.

The historic day is behind us. SpaceX in cooperation with NASA launched a rocket to the ISS

Although it might seem that the United States is consolidating its position as a space power more and more, the opposite is true. In fact, it has been 9 long years to the day since the last manned rocket took off from North America. That is not to say that there are no tests or training flights to orbit, but no machine has even come close to the imaginary milestone - the International Space Station - in the last decade. However, this is now changing, especially thanks to the legendary visionary Elon Musk, i.e. SpaceX, and the renowned company NASA. It was these two giants who started working together after long disagreements and launched the Crew Dragon rocket named Resilience towards the ISS.

Specifically, both agencies sent a four-person crew into space on Sunday at 19:27 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. However, it should be noted that this is not a milestone only in the context of the total time that has passed since the last time a purely American rocket was sent into space. Years of work by scientists and engineers are also behind the general enthusiasm, and the fact that the Resilience rocket was supposed to make its debut several times already made its mark on it. But it always came to nothing in the end, either due to technical difficulties or the weather. One way or another, this is at least a partially positive end to this year, and we can only hope that both SpaceX and NASA will go according to plan. According to representatives, another trip awaits us in March 2021.
