If we were to place the newly released game Boyfriend Dungeon on some imaginary scale of released weirdness, it would definitely end up somewhere near the top. The novelty from the Kitfox Games studio combines two seemingly incompatible genres - a dungeon crawler and a dating simulator. Can such a game justify its form and satisfy fans of both genres? Boyfriend Dungeon tries hard to do just that.

The basic premise of the game is really weird. As a newly immigrated resident of the city, you begin to search for your soul mate. Right away you will learn that there is a special way of existence in these regions where some people can turn into weapons. Meanwhile, in one of the local shopping centers, someone kidnaps such creatures and leaves them to their fate. You will say to yourself that you can combine the pleasant with the useful, and you will begin to recognize living weapons while abundantly slashing and stabbing the omnipresent enemies.

Each of the weapons has its own human form, into which it transforms in effective animations that seem to have fallen out of a Japanese anime. The combination of both mentioned genres then comes into play when upgrading weapons. The next level and new abilities will open up to you every time you use a specific weapon. But in order to get the new benefits, you have to go on a date with her first. Depending on how successful it is, you'll then gain access to an upgraded version and additional opportunities to get to know your companion more. Let's add the fact that everyone chooses between potential partners. Not only do individual weapons differ in terms of gameplay, their human counterparts differ perhaps even more.
