The new iPad, which should be larger than all previous models, has been talked about continuously for many months. Apple is said to be still working on a roughly 12- to 13-inch tablet and is preparing more significant news for software on iPads as well.

Last time we talked about the big iPad it spoke in March, when its production was supposed to be moved to the fall of this year at the earliest. Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac now citing its sources directly from Apple confirmed, that the Californian company has prototypes of the 12-inch iPad in its labs and continues to develop them.

The current prototypes are supposed to look like enlarged versions of the iPad Air, with the difference that they have more holes for the speaker. However, their form can and will probably change over time. According to Gurman's sources, it has not yet been decided when the 12-inch tablet, referred to as the iPad Pro, should be released.

The development of the larger iPad is apparently closely connected with the development of a version of the operating system adapted to it. Apple plans to modify some parts of iOS and add new ones to take full advantage of the large display. The developers in Cupertino continue to work on the possibility of running at least two applications side by side on the iPad.

For the first time, the new form of multitasking that many users have been clamoring for has begun speak a year ago. Then also Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac brought information that this function could appear already in iOS 8. In the end, Apple decided to delay its launch, however, he would like to have it ready for the large iPad at the latest.

It is not excluded that it will be possible to run multiple applications side by side also on current iPads. iOS is supposed to be able to display applications side by side in different proportions, both two others, and the same application in multiple versions. In addition, the option of user accounts is being prepared for the next version of iOS, which is another feature highly requested by users. Multiple people could log into the iPad, each with their own set of apps and other settings.

Specifically, for the yet-to-be-presented large iPad, Apple is considering redesigning some basic applications so that more space can be used again. Greater support for keyboards and USB is said to be an option. It is not yet clear whether we will see the aforementioned changes already in iOS 9, in a few weeks at WWDC, or whether Apple will need some more time for development.
