While some users use third-party email clients on their Mac, others prefer native Mail. If you also fall into this group and are just getting started with native Mail on Mac, you will certainly appreciate our tips on keyboard shortcuts that will make working with this application easier, more efficient and faster.

Create and manage reports

If you generally prefer using keyboard shortcuts over traditional clicking on individual controls, you'll definitely appreciate the shortcuts related to writing messages. You create a new e-mail message in native Mail using the keyboard shortcut Command + N. You can use the shortcut Shift + Command + A to attach an attachment to the created e-mail message, and to insert text in the form of a quote into the e-mail message, use the shortcut Shift + Command + V. If you would like to attach selected e-mails to an e-mail message, you can use the shortcut Alt (Option) + Command + I. You can also use the shortcuts when working with individual messages - with the help of the shortcut Alt (Option ) + Command + J for example to delete junk mail, press the shortcut Shift + Command + N to retrieve new emails.

If you want to reply to the selected e-mail, use the keyboard shortcut Command + R, to forward the selected e-mail, use the shortcut Shift + Command + F. To forward the selected e-mail, you can use the shortcut Shift + Command + F, and if you want to close all native Mail windows on your Mac, the shortcut Alt (Option) + Command + W will do.

Display

By default, you can only see certain elements or fields in the native Mail app on your Mac. Selected keyboard shortcuts work great for displaying additional fields – Alt (Option) + Command + B, for example, displays the Bcc field in an email, while Alt (Option) + Command + R is used to change to display the Reply to field. You can use the shortcut Ctrl + Command + S to show or hide the sidebar of native Mail, and if you want to format the current email message as plain or rich text, you can use the keyboard shortcut Shift + Command + T.
