We are yesterday they published an article about the interesting patents that Apple uses to protect the design of its flagship stores, and the companies that most often copy the Apple Story were also mentioned. But few would expect one among them - McDonald's. The world-famous fast food chain opened a new restaurant in Chicago, USA on Thursday, and it looks completely different from what we are used to. Like the Apple Store.

A completely different McDonald's

"People who walk into the new Apple Store in Chicago may be surprised to find out that it's actually a McDonald's," writes CultOfMac, aptly pointing out the similarities between the newly opened restaurant and apple stores. The new and largely glass fast food building was built on the site of the former Rock 'N' Roll McDonald's, a place infamous for the occasional brawl that took place there. But now, in addition to this history, the place has also come with the traditional look of a building with two yellow arches and currently offers, in the words of franchise owner Nick Karavites, "the experience of the future."

Wood, greenery and technology

The building of the new McDonald's with an internal area of 1700 m² differs in many ways from the usual restaurants of the well-known chain. At first glance, you can see the abundant use of greenery and wood in the interior of the fast food restaurant, and similar to the new Apple Story, this fast food also includes freely accessible areas around the building itself. The new building is much more environmentally friendly than its predecessor, and the roof covered with solar panels should cover 60% of the electricity consumption.

The restaurant is exceptional not only in its appearance, but also in the services it offers. This McDonald's is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, offers table service or the option to order food remotely via the app and then just pick it up. Of course, there are plenty of parking spaces and a drive thru. However, the only technology you will come across in this building are self-service kiosks that allow you to order and pay for food without having to speak to the staff.

At Apple, they have probably gotten used to imitating the style of their stores. However, as a rule, these are technology companies that copy the design of Apple Stores, and in the case of fast food, it is a premiere. But even though the Apple company is often sued for copying even the smallest details of its devices, there is not a single known case of legal proceedings in which the design of stores is at issue. The Cupertino firm probably realizes that it was not the first to use glass, wood or greenery, and perhaps it is rather pleased that it has succeeded in establishing a new standard of ideal commerce that other companies aspire to.
