In the next week, we are expecting the presentation of the expected iPhone 13, which should bring a number of interesting novelties. With a bit of exaggeration, we can already say that we know practically everything about the upcoming generation of Apple phones - that is, at least about the biggest changes. Paradoxically, the most attention is now not the expected "thirteen," but the iPhone 14. We can thank the well-known leaker, Jon Prosser, for this, who published extremely interesting renders of the iPhones planned for 2022.

If we stay with the iPhone 13 for a while, we can almost certainly say that its design will be practically unchanged (compared to the iPhone 12). Specifically, it will see only slight changes in the case of the upper cutout and the rear photo module. On the contrary, the iPhone 14 will probably throw the previous development behind and strike a brand new note - and for now it looks promising. According to available information, next year we will see the complete removal of the long-criticized upper cutout, which will be replaced by a hole. In the same way, the protruding lenses in the case of the rear camera will also disappear.

Is there a cut-out or a cut-out?

As we mentioned above, the iPhone's top notch faces huge criticism, even from within its own ranks. Apple first introduced it in 2017 with the revolutionary iPhone X for a relatively meaningful reason. The cut-out, or notch, hides the so-called TrueDepth camera, which hides all the necessary components for the Face ID system enabling biometric authentication through a 3D facial scan. In the case of the first generation, the upper cut-out did not have so many opponents - in short, Apple fans praised the successful change and were able to wave their hands over this aesthetic deficiency. Anyway, this changed with the arrival of the next generations, which unfortunately we did not see any reduction. Over time, the criticism grew stronger and today it is already evident that Apple has to do something about this ailment.

As the first solution, the iPhone 13 is highly likely to be offered. Thanks to the reduction of some components, it will offer a slightly narrower cutout. But let's pour some pure wine, is that enough? Probably not to most apple growers. It is precisely for this reason that the Cupertino giant should, over time, switch over to the punch that is used, for example, by phones from competitors. Moreover, Jon Prosser is not the first to predict a similar change. The most respected analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has already commented on the subject, according to whom Apple has been working on a similar change for some time already. However, it is not yet certain whether the passthrough will be offered by all models from the given generation, or whether it will be limited only to Pro models. Kuo adds to this that if everything goes smoothly and there are no problems on the production side, then all phones will see this change.

Face ID will remain

The question continues to arise, whether by removing the top cutout we will not lose the popular Face ID system. At the moment, unfortunately, no one knows the exact information about the functionality of the upcoming iPhones, in any case, it is expected that the mentioned system will remain. There are proposals to move the necessary components under the display. Manufacturers have been trying to do something similar with the front camera for a long time, but the results are not satisfactory enough (yet). In any case, this might not apply to components from the TrueDepth camera that are used for Face ID.

iPhone 14 render

The protruding camera will become a thing of the past

What surprised the new render of the iPhone 14 is its rear camera, which is perfectly embedded in the body itself and therefore does not protrude anywhere. It is surprising for a simple reason - so far, information has appeared that Apple is working on a significantly more capable and better photo system, which will understandably require more space (due to larger and more capable components). This ailment could theoretically be solved by increasing the thickness of the phone to align with the rear camera. But it is not clear whether we will actually see something similar.

iPhone 14 render

A new periscopic lens could be the salvation in this direction. Here, however, we encounter certain inconsistencies - Ming-Chi Kuo said in the past that a similar novelty would not arrive until 2023 at the earliest, i.e. with the arrival of the iPhone 15. So there are still question marks hanging over the camera, and we will have to wait until some Friday for more detailed information wait.

Do you miss the iPhone 4 design?

When we look at the above rendering in general, we can immediately think that it strongly resembles the popular iPhone 4 in terms of design. While with the iPhone 12, Apple was inspired by the iconic "five," so now it could do something similar, but with an even older generation . With this move, he would undoubtedly win the favor of long-time apple fans who still remember the given model, or even used it.

Finally, we have to add that the renderings were created based on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Jon Prosser has reportedly only seen this model, specifically its appearance. For this reason, it cannot (now) offer any detailed information regarding the functionality of the device, or how, for example, Face ID will work under the display. Nevertheless, it is an interesting look into a possible future. How would you like such an iPhone? Would you welcome it, or should Apple go in a different direction?
