After a week, it's back to our regular roundup of speculation - here we'll always bring you a selection of patent news, analysis, predictions, anecdotal reports or even leaks. This time we will talk about the improvement of augmented reality in Apple devices, the new design of Macs or perhaps the Apple Watch Series 7.

Even better AR

Apple is definitely not neglecting its activities in the field of augmented reality, so it is understandable that speculation related to this topic has been increasing recently. According to the latest ones, future iPhones - or an Apple AR headset - could have a function that would use the light from the display to track the movement of practically any surface. The mentioned system should determine the position and orientation of the scanned object with the help of light rays and then also monitor its possible movement. The fact that Apple is toying with the idea of this system is evidenced by a recently filed patent that shows the use of this principle in an AR / VR headset.

New Mac design next year

Recently, hardware from Apple has more or less maintained its typical design, and with new generations there are rather minimal changes in terms of appearance. Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said last week that we could expect significant changes from Apple, especially in the design of computers, next year. Apple's silicon chips, which enable changes inside and outside computers, should be responsible for this - according to Kuo, there could be thinning, for example. In this context, Kuo further stated that Apple could introduce its new products in the field of computers in the second half of next year.

Change for Apple Watch Series 7

Ming Chi-Kuo also commented on the next generation Apple Watch during the past week. In connection with smart watches from Apple, there have been talks about a change in design several times in the past, but there have never been too significant changes. Kuo is of the opinion that we could expect a major design overhaul with the arrival of the Apple Watch Series 7. There should be a significant narrowing of the frames around the display, the introduction of an even thinner design and the replacement of the physical side button with a haptic version. According to Kuo, the sensors located on the bottom of the watch should get new functions, such as blood sugar measurement.
