With the end of the week, we bring you again a regular supply of information about speculations related to the company Apple. This time we will talk about the functions and packaging of the new iPhone models, but also different variants of the name of the new version of macOS, which Apple will present at this year's WWDC on Monday.

ToF sensors on the iPhone 12

The time between the introduction of this year's iPhone models is getting shorter and shorter. In connection with them, there is speculation about a number of novelties, among which, among others, is the ToF (Time of Flight) sensor on the camera. That speculation was fueled in the week by reports that supply chains were gearing up to mass produce the components involved. Server Digitimes reported that the manufacturer Win Semiconductors has placed an order for VCSEL chips, which in addition to supporting 3D and ToF sensors in smartphone cameras. The ToF sensors in the rear cameras of the new iPhones should serve to make augmented reality work even better and improve the quality of photos. In addition to ToF sensors, this year's iPhones should be equipped with new A-series chips, manufactured using the 5nm process, 5G connectivity and other improvements.

The name of the new macOS

Already on Monday, we will see the online WWDC, where Apple will present its new operating systems. As usual, this year there is also speculation about the name of this year's version of macOS. In the past, for example, we could meet names after big cats, a little later came names after different places in California. Apple has in the past registered a number of geographical name trademarks related to California locations. Of the two dozen names, trademarks remained active on only four: Mammoth, Monterey, Rincon and Skyline. According to data from the relevant authorities, the Rincon naming rights will expire first, and Apple has not yet renewed them, so this option seems the least likely. However, it is also possible that this year's macOS will eventually bear a completely different name.

iPhone 12 packaging

Perhaps before every release of new iPhone models, there is speculation about what their packaging will look like. In the past, we could, for example, come across reports that AirPods were supposed to be included in the packaging of high-end iPhones, there were also talks about different types of charging accessories or, conversely, the complete absence of headphones. A Wedbush analyst came up with a theory this week that the packaging of this year's iPhones should not include "wired" EarPods. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also holds the same opinion. With this move, Apple reportedly wants to increase sales of its AirPods even more – they should reach 85 million units sold this year, according to Wedbush.
