We provide more details in today's summary, where, among other things, we also mention the iOS 16.3 operating system or the massive outage of services from Apple.

Apple has stopped signing iOS 16.3

In the middle of last week, Apple officially stopped signing the public version of the iOS 16.3 operating system. It traditionally happened not long after Apple released the iOS 16.31 operating system to the public. Apple stops signing "older" versions of its operating systems for several different reasons. In addition to security, this is also to prevent jailbreaks. In connection with the iOS 16.3 operating system, Apple also admitted that the mentioned version suffered from many errors and vulnerability.

Other personnel changes

U.S. Apple Watch Ban Coming?

The United States is in real danger of banning the Apple Watch. The origins of the whole problem date back to 2015, when Apple was sued by AliveCor over a patent that enabled EKG capture. AliveCor reportedly held talks with Apple about a possible partnership, but nothing came of those talks. However, in 2018, Apple introduced its ECG-enabled Apple Watch, and three years later, AliveCor filed a lawsuit against Apple, accusing it of stealing its ECG technology and infringing three of its patents.

The patent infringement was subsequently officially confirmed by the court, but the entire case was still handed over to President Joe Biden for review. He awarded the victory to AliveCor. Apple thus came close to banning the import of the Apple Watch into the United States, but the ban as such has been postponed for the time being. In the meantime, the Patent Office declared AliveCor's patents invalid, against which the company appealed. It is precisely on the outcome of the ongoing appeal process that it depends on whether the ban on the import of the Apple Watch into the US will actually come into force.

Outage of services from Apple

At the end of the week, apple services, including iCloud, experienced an outage. The media started reporting on the problem on Thursday, iWork, Fitness+ services in the respective regions, Apple TVB+, but also the App Store, Apple Books or even Podcasts reported the outage. The outage was quite massive, but Apple managed to fix it by Friday morning. At the time of writing, Apple has not disclosed the cause of the outage.
