How the simple game Flappy Bird earns tens of thousands a day, a cool new iPhone reader, an addictive puzzle game, and updates for popular games and apps. This is what the sixth week of this year brought...

News from the world of applications

Flappy Bird earns $50 a day in advertising (000/5)

The fun app called Flappy Bird from Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen has been leading the US App Store charts for a month, and it's a "gold mine" for the developer himself. This fun game earns an average of $50 every day thanks to the in-app advertising that is present in the game. The application is otherwise free to download. The fact that this is an interesting piece is also evidenced by the number of downloads. More than fifty million, that's how many times the Flappy Bird application has been downloaded. It has 000 reviews on its account, a very similar number to, for example, Evernote or Gmail.

Flappy Bird is a simple, addictive game where you drag your finger to make your bird "jump" and you must always hit the gap between the pillars. The game is wrapped in a really undemanding graphic jacket, which is perhaps one of the reasons for its huge success.

EA is unfairly trying to filter out bad user reviews in Dungeon Keeper (6/2)

With their Dungeon Keeper game, EA does everything possible to hide negative user reviews from people. It's not unusual these days for an app to ask you if you want to rate it after a certain amount of time of use. But the game Dungeon Keeper does it a little differently on Android devices. The game will ask you to rate it 1-4 stars or give it the full number - five stars. Only if the user selects a five-star rating will the rating go to Google Play. If the user rates the game differently, the rating goes not to Google Play, but to EA, which can deal with everything privately or ignore it completely. Unsurprisingly, this information caused more of a stir in the media.

Threes!

Threes is a simple puzzle where numbers play the main role. As the name suggests, the game is primarily about the number three. Individual numbers are gradually revealed on the 4×4 game board. The task is clear. Connect the tiles with the number one and two to make the number three. Conversely, two tiles with the number three can be joined together to give you the number six. And so on and on. Of course, the playing field gradually fills up more and more, so you have to be faster and connect individual tiles faster. For every multiple of the number three, you get a point rating.

A new RSS reader called Unread – An RSS Reader has also arrived on the iPhone. This is an application that fits well into the iOS concept. Unread comes with support for RSS services Feedbin, Feedly and FeedWrangler. The application offers the classic functions of an RSS reader with the possibility of saving the article for later reading and sharing it on social networks. There's also the background update feature that Apple rolled out in iOS 7.

Unread mainly attacks with its nice user interface and the gestures used to control it. Almost all movement in the application is handled by gestures, so the application is not full of unsightly buttons. The application is focused on the content and does not interfere with anything else. You can download Unread for iPhone in the App Store for €2,69. The latest iOS 7 operating system is required to run the app.

Broken Sword 5

Revolution Software's adventure game Broken Sword: The Serpent Curse has arrived on iOS. A successful project from a crowdfunding server Kickstarter comes for now with its first episode. This is already the fifth installment of the successful adventure game. The second episode should arrive later and will be available for purchase directly in the app. An Android version is also expected, but apparently hours of testing are still needed before owners of mobile devices with this system get to see it.

The fifth installment of the Broken Sword series follows the adventures of lawyer George Stobbart and journalist Nico Collard as they solve various mysteries involving, among other things, an encounter with the devil.

Important update

Evernote for Mac

Evernote is a very popular tool for both Mac and iOS. It is a multi-platform, functional and advanced application for creating various notes, which reaps success mainly due to its simplicity, excellent synchronization and many handy functions. All versions of this software have great user support and are constantly getting updates with new and new features.

After the version for iOS, the alternative for Mac has also received improvements and also contains interesting news. In version 5.5.0 it is now possible to use a new form of search. Notes can be searched using natural language, for example by location, type of note or creation date. For example, you can search by entering "notes with PDFs", "notes from Paris", "recipes created last week" and the like.

The function is currently only available in English, but hopefully we will see support for other languages in time. You can download Evernote for free in the Mac App Store. If you are a T-Mobile customer, you can take advantage of the special offer on Evernote Premium that we have informed you about here.

Plants vs. Zombies 2

The popular game Plants vs. Zmobies 2. The new version is in the spirit of the spectacular return of the biggest villain of this game - Zomboss. This dangerously intelligent brain eater appears in three parts of the game. The player will have to face him in battle, in three game worlds. Zomboss can be found in Egypt, in the pirate world and in the wild west.

In addition to Zomboss, the update also brings a new Snowball feature that allows the player to freeze all of their enemies, making it easier for the plants to fight them. Zomboss in this sequel to the popular original Platns vs. Zombies was absent from the beginning and was not expected to come until the future with the larger Far Future update that the developers at PopCap promised. There is no new news about this update yet, so we will have to wait for its arrival.

Google Maps

Google Maps still enjoys quite a lot of popularity on iOS and can boast a decent share. In 2012, Apple stopped using map data from Google in the Maps system application, but Google was not idle and developed its own application for iOS the same year, thus offering iOS users an alternative to the then new and imperfect solution from Apple.

Since then, the Google Maps application has been constantly improving, receiving new features and even gaining support for the large iPad display. This week, the application was already updated to version 2.6 and again offers a handy new feature. Apart from fixing a few minor bugs, only one new feature has been added, but it's certainly no small thing.

The map application from Google can now warn you when navigating whenever it has a faster alternative for your route. Of course, it is good to know that you are always traveling the fastest way to your destination. You can download Google Maps for iPhone and iPad for free in the App Store.
