News from the world of applications

Microsoft bought Minecraft for $2,5 billion (September 15)

More precisely, Microsoft bought Mojang, the company behind the development of this popular game. The reason is, in Microsoft's words, the promise of "great potential for further growth and community support." This is also the reason for the unchanged support - new versions of Minecraft will continue to be released for all currently supported platforms, including OS X and iOS.

The only change in the team behind Minecraft is the departure of Carl Manneh, Markus Persson and Jakob Porsér from Mojang, they say they want to focus on something new. Microsoft expects a return on investment by the end of 2015.

SwiftKey already has over a million downloads (September 18)

One of the main innovations of iOS 8 is the ability to install and then use software keyboards from third-party developers across the entire system. The popularity of this new iOS feature was evident in the first twenty-four hours. That was enough time for SwiftKey to climb to the top of the most downloaded free apps in the US App Store, with more than a million downloads.

SwiftKey has the same position in the Czech AppStore, despite the fact that does not support Czech (an important feature of SwiftKey is predictive typing requiring a dynamic dictionary). The version for Android can speak Czech, so users of iOS devices will probably not have to wait too long.

New applications

Goat Simulator

Goat Simulator is a game that has become cult even before its launch. The game is full of bugs and bad physics. While most developers try to avoid these features, they are a very important part of the game experience, using them for destruction and bizarre movements across the environment earns the player points. However, the developers from Coffee Stain Studios most clearly point out that the main protagonist of the game is a goat.

Goat Simulator is available for iPhone and iPad at a price of 4 euros and 49 cents, with no additional in-app payments.

66 Percent

In this graphically and controllably simple game by Czech developers, the player's task is to inflate the balloons by holding a finger on the display until they fill up 66% of the display area. The number of balloons is limited and you have to avoid the flying balls when inflating them, because they will burst when the balloon pops. The motion sensor also plays a role, by tilting the device the balloons can be moved after they are inflated. The difficulty of the game increases with additional levels.

66 Percent is available on the AppStore for free on both iPhone and iPad, with in-app purchases that unlock bonuses, additional levels, and remove ads.
