Je Suis Charlie app in support of Charlie Hebdo passed approval in just one hour (12/1)

It usually takes around ten days for the application to be approved and on its way to the App Store. However, the authors of the application created in support of the Charlie Hebdo editorial office, which fell victim to a terrorist attack, did not want to wait that long. So they sent an email asking to speed up the process directly to Tim Cook. Apple's assistant wrote back within 15 minutes, promising to approve the application within the next hour. And so it happened.

Campaign je suis charlie, i.e. in translation I'm Charlie, was created to support the attacked editorial office and to pay tribute to the shot editors and cartoonists of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The app of the same name was created in conjunction with the campaign and allows users around the world to send their location and thus place a badge on the map paying tribute and support to the victims of the attack.

Spotify already has 60 million users, 15 million of whom pay for the service (January 12)

Spotify boasted a great week of success. The service surpassed the goal of 15 million subscribers. The total number of users of this music streaming service is then 60 million.

Spotify is enjoying a really big and admirable boom. Back in 2011, the service could boast only one million paying users. In March 2013, Spotify boasted 6 million subscribers. In April 2014, the milestone of 10 million subscribers was surpassed, and over the past six months, the paying base has grown by a third to the current 15 million.

The expansion of the service is also due to the predatory policy of Spotify, which reached many new platforms last year. The service also came with some very nice updates to its apps, and a family subscription model was also a welcome addition in 2014.

Chrome Remote Desktop is coming to iOS

This week, Google finally came out with the iOS version of its successful Chrome Remote Desktop application. Through the application, you can control your computer from anywhere via iPhone or iPad. Android users have been able to use the app since last year, and the iOS version was even more awaited. For example, a great use of the app is to install it on your parent's computer and have instant access to that computer when they need help.

Important update

Parallels Access comes with an update for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, offers a new web tool

Thanks to the update, the Parallels Access application received a new way of managing files and improved sound control. A completely new version of this tool working in Internet browsers was also published. In addition, the application is now fully compatible with iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. So Parallels Access now makes it possible to remotely control several Macs and PCs via iPhones, iPads and via a web browser.

The most important change in file management is the possibility of storing them locally, thanks to which the user can access files more easily and, above all, faster. File management now takes full advantage of iOS 8 innovations and works with other applications such as Google Drive or Dropbox. Users can view and copy files from these servers as well as open their locally stored files in various other applications. Thanks to this update, files can also be shared through the classic iOS sharing tools. The update also allows users to choose whether they want music to play from the iOS device's speakers or directly from the controlled computer.

Google Translate can now translate voice and text in real time

This week, Google released a big and important update to its Google Translate for iOS. The first major innovation is the integration of the previously purchased Word Lens service, which allows the user to point the camera at a foreign language inscription and have it translated into a language they understand on the display in real time.

One will use such a function mainly to translate inscriptions, signs or menus in restaurants, while the supported languages include French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. A big advantage is that this feature does not require an internet connection.

The second major innovation is the function of simultaneous spoken word translation. This feature arrived on Android last year, and now we're seeing it on iOS as well. It is nice that the application itself recognizes the language spoken by the person whose speech is to be translated. So just start the function by pressing the microphone symbol and then pause the recording when you want the app to translate what was just said.

Google Maps offers restaurant filtering and an overview of the weather of the selected destination

Another updated app from Google this week was Google Maps. The latest version with serial number 4.2 brings several new features. You can now filter restaurants according to their cuisine in the search. An interesting new feature is also weather information in the city search results, the possibility to add a specific public transport connection to the calendar and finally the possibility to navigate between pins located on the map.

Skype will now provide even faster communication

Skype for iPhone received another update, which is now being pampered by Microsoft like never before. Version 5.9 mainly improves the dialer interface and conversation selection. At the same time, according to the developers, the changes should lead to a significant acceleration of communication.

After the update, users can easily start a conversation by pressing the appropriate button and then selecting a contact, while it is possible to immediately write a message and start a call or video call. In the new version, Skype has also learned to search for contacts while typing their phone number on the dial pad.

Things comes with a notification center widget

Developers from Culture Code, the studio behind the popular GTD tool Things, have come up with another big news. Their apps for iPhone and iPad now offer an action widget in the Notification Center, thanks to which you can view tasks, complete them and access them directly from the lock screen of your iOS device.

The application takes data from today's task sheet and also displays the dates of individual tasks, which helps the user plan his daily activity. The update also comes with a new URL scheme that allows developers to better integrate Things into their own apps.
