News from the world of applications

The ambulance is celebrating successes. It is now also aimed at people with visual impairments and is also coming to Apple Watch (6/6)

For three months now, a new mobile application has been helping medical emergency services in the Czech Republic with the exact location of patients. If a patient uses the Záchranka application to contact the emergency services, they also send their current geographic location and other useful information when calling 155, which is used for faster orientation of the dispatcher and the responding rescue team.

"During the first three months of operation, we received several emergency calls from the Záchranka mobile application at our rescue service control room alone. For example, the system made it much easier for us to track down a cyclist who was confused after falling on an unpaved forest road and found it difficult to describe his location," says Petr Matějíčka, head of the operation center of the Liberec Region Medical Ambulance Service.

The mobile application is currently downloaded to their smart phone and more than 100 users are already registered in the system. So far, emergency services have responded to more than sixty emergency calls across the country, received through the mobile application. In many cases, the novelty significantly facilitated the search for a patient.

The novelty is the modification of the application, which enables its full use also by visually impaired users. By integrating support for subtraction functions and adding audio instructions, the system is now truly accessible to everyone. Then there was also the extension of the application to the Apple Watch, which transferred the possibility of calling for quick help to the wrist as well.

Microsoft released its own program for organizing team collaboration (6/6)

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/FOWB3UjRwqU” width=”640″]

Microsoft's new tool, Planner, is intended to serve the same range of people as, for example, Asana or Trello. Its goal is to facilitate (or enable) the effective organization of cooperation in groups. It does not differ significantly in its concept or capabilities from the tools of the competition, its potential success will most likely lie mainly in the strength of the brand.

Planner allows you to create a common account for a given group, to which each of its members will join. Everyone will then see what someone is currently working on, how close they are to completion, what attachments, notes, etc. they have added to the project. For a more general overview, graphs are available showing who has been assigned how many tasks, how many of them have been completed, how many have exceeded the deadline, etc. Planner of course, it is fully compatible with other Microsoft office software such as OneNote and Outlook.

Microsoft Planner is available for free as part of Office 365. Native applications for Windows, iOS and Android are already in the works.

Slack users can now make phone calls through it (8/6)

Slack, a cross-platform team communication app, has so far focused primarily on text-based communication. It can do this at a fairly high level, as many types of attachments can be included in messages, such as documents, multimedia, calendar events, and the functions of many third-party services are also integrated. But if even that is not enough for communication, users can now also use voice calls. Slack thus joins the trend of expanding communication methods of mostly text services. An interesting feature for Slack in this regard is the ability to send emoticons during the call.

Voice calls are available cross-platform in Slack and do not require an update for the feature. The novelty is continuously released among users.

Sketch 4.0 is not coming, Bohemian Coding is changing the way it releases updates (8/6)

Sketch, the popular vector graphics editor, is changing its distribution policy. Until now, its major updates (from version 1.0 to 2.0 and 3.0) were available for a fee, and minor ones (1.1, 2.3, etc.) were available for free. The developers of the application, however, in light of the expected arrival of version 4.0, in the post ... recently noted that this model is not entirely fair. This is because depending on how close to the release of a major (paid) update the user bought the app, he got fewer or more free updates.

Bohemian Coding wants to change that by switching to a new subscription model. Existing users of the app will receive free updates for the next six months, or a year from the time they purchased Sketch. The next year of updates will again be charged once. This model will no longer distinguish between "major" and "minor" updates, so it avoids that one user may receive a "major" update and another only a "minor" within an annual subscription. So the "big version" 4.0 will not come out, after version 3.8 will come 39, 40, 41, etc.

A new annual update subscription (if the user stops paying, they will still be able to use the latest version of the application that was part of their subscription) will cost $99 for new and existing users. Paid updates include only those with new features, updates with fixes will be available to all users for free.

New applications

Public transport departures are an ideal supplement for travelers using Prague's public transport

A useful Czech application is the novelty called "Public transport departures", which will mainly serve the people of Prague and those who travel by train. As the name of the application suggests, its mission is to display the departures of public transport from the nearest stop. The strength of the application lies in its simplicity, thanks to which you only need to turn on the application and you can immediately see when and what will arrive at the stop. There is absolutely no setup required, other than initially allowing GPS access.

Each of the connections on the list of departures can be clicked and the user immediately sees the details of the connection including the list of stops and the respective arrival times. The notification center widget is also perfect, thanks to which you can see the "departure board" of the nearest stop even on the locked screen of your iPhone, so you will always have it at hand.

Public transport departures download in the App Store for a symbolic 99 cents.

The French government has released an app to warn of a terrorist attack

In addition to sporting experiences, the football Euro brings with it the fear of terrorist attacks. The French Ministry of the Interior has therefore released a special mobile application that aims to warn people of a possible threat, based on their position. In the event of an attack, the application is also supposed to advise people on what to do.

The app is available in both English and French, for iOS i Android.

1Blocker has also arrived on Mac, it also offers cloud synchronization

1Blocker, possibly the best content blocker on iOS, also arrived on Mac. The advantage of this application is its wide adjustability, thanks to which it is possible to block, in addition to advertisements, other unwanted content such as porn sites, cookies, discussions, social widgets or web fonts. The application offers a very extensive database of content to block and also allows you to create your own blacklist.

Now this bloated application comes to Mac as well, and on it it strictly adheres to its original philosophy. You will also be able to customize the application to your liking on your computer, and a big advantage is that cloud synchronization between the mobile and desktop versions is also available. So you can easily use your rules, blacklists and whitelists across platforms and you won't have to waste time setting them up again. In addition, 1Blocker for Mac offers a Safari extension, thanks to which it is possible to quickly get a specific page on the list of allowed content.

1Blocker for Mac download from the Mac App Store for less than €5. The iOS version is Free Download. But if you want to use it to the full, you will have to unlock its full potential for a price of €2,99.

Important update

Paper by FiftyThree comes with a handy sidebar and search

The very popular drawing application Paper by FiftyThree has received an interesting update. The one on iPhone and iPad brings a new form of user interface with a handy side panel that will allow easier access to your content and also offers a search function. In addition, when drawing with the Apple Pencil or the FiftyThree Pencil, the new version of the application also offers a quick option to use the "cut" function, which is especially useful when you accidentally touch your drawings with your hand.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the possibility to view your own creations in "full-screen" mode and better optimization of inks when using the Apple Pencil. Paper by FiftyThree can be found in the App Store for free.

Camera+ received interesting news with version 8

The highly capable Camera+ photo application has received a brand new version 8, in which it becomes an even more modern and capable tool. The first big news is the ability to set the shutter speed up to 30 seconds, which, among other things, allows you to take beautiful night pictures on the iPhone. The application also now supports ultra-low ISO, which will allow you to play better with taking a picture.

A significant improvement is the addition of support for sharing extensions, which makes it possible to easily send a picture from the system photo gallery or even from Google Photos to Camera+ and edit it there. Until now, it was necessary to open Camera+ first and then import a picture from another source into it. And speaking of import, in the eighth version, the application added the possibility to upload the last pictures taken or entire "moments".

Cardiogram now runs natively on the Apple Watch, it also brings 3D Touch

Heart rate monitoring app cardiogram offers its users many statistics and collaborations with heart disorders research conducted at the University of California, San Francisco. One of the goals of the application is to create algorithms for detecting heart rate anomalies and predicting health problems.

The new version of Cardiogram has a changed user experience that includes a new complication for the Apple Watch. It gives users the opportunity to view current data about the work of their heart directly on the watch face. More importantly, however, you no longer need to have your iPhone with you all the time to get this data, as Cardiogram now runs natively on watchOS 2.

But the iPhone display is still better for viewing and working with longer-term statistics. This is to further enhance 3D Touch support, which can be used to mark points with peaks of heart activity that may indicate abnormalities in the heartbeat.
