Live Photos have been part of iPhones and the iOS operating system for a relatively long time, but the social network Twitter did not support them until now. Although you could upload a Live Photo to Twitter, the image was at least always displayed as static. That's a thing of the past, however, and Twitter began displaying Live Photos as animated GIFs this week.

Twitter informed about the news - how else - on your Twitter. Users who want to upload a moving Live Photo to the network can now select an image, choose the "GIF" button and use it to post the photo, all right within the Twitter experience.

“Upload an image as you would upload a standard photo — tap the image icon in the lower left corner of the app, then select your photo from the collection and tap 'Add'. At this point, it's still a regular still photo, not a GIF. If you were to post your Tweet right now, this is exactly how it would appear to you. To convert to a moving image, click on the GIF icon added to the lower left corner of your image. You can tell if the procedure is done correctly when the picture starts to move".

Live Photos have been part of iPhones since 2015, when Apple introduced its iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. The format is closely related to the 3D Touch function - when choosing Live Photo, the iPhone camera captures a video of several seconds instead of a standard still image. Live Photo can then be started in the camera gallery by long and firm pressing of the display.
