More than a year after Twitter officially ended development of its app for the macOS platform, Twitter is announcing its comeback. After last year's wave of user indignation, there is a 180-degree turn, the reason for which no one knows. Just as the original move to cancel development of the app caused embarrassment. Anyway, the official Twitter app for macOS is coming, and the first information about what it will look like has hit the web.

Last February, Twitter representatives announced that they were ending the development of the macOS application, as they want to focus on the development of a web interface that can be accessed by everyone. The main goal was to "unify the user experience" for everyone, regardless of platform. However, this approach is now changing.

The new Twitter application for macOS will arrive primarily thanks to Apple's Catalyst Project, which enables easy porting of applications between individual iOS, iPadOS and macOS platforms. The company Twitter does not have to invent a completely new dedicated application for Macs, it will only use the existing one for iOS and slightly modify it for the capabilities and needs of the macOS operating system.

The resulting application, according to official information from Twitter's Twitter account, will be a macOS application based on the one for the iPad. However, it will be expanded with several new elements such as support for multiple windows in the timeline, support for increasing/reducing the application window, drag and drop, dark mode, keyboard shortcuts, notifications, etc. The development of the new application is ongoing and it is expected to be available soon (or very shortly) after the release of macOS Catalina, in September of this year.
