Just connect to the mobile network via your phone and you can browse even faster. However, the problem is with the data limit, which you can use up very quickly while working on the computer.
Such a connection is especially convenient when you work in the Apple ecosystem. With just one click, you can connect to the mobile Internet on your Mac without having to take your iPhone out of your pocket. It is just as easy to use up the mentioned data limit. That's why - if you often do the so-called hotspot from your iPhone - we highly recommend the TripMode application.
TripMode sits as an inconspicuous application in the top menu bar, but it is very effective. Once you turn on the hotspot on your iPhone and connect it to your Mac, TripMode is automatically activated. Its function is to prevent all applications from accessing the Internet, and you manually choose which ones you allow to download data.
When you're traveling and you don't have an unlimited data limit, you certainly don't need to download data for all apps at a hotspot. At the same time, you usually have many of them turned on and you don't even realize that, for example, the calendar or photos are being synchronized in the background. When you just need to catch up on a few emails and browse the web, you can only enable Safari and Mail in TripMod and not worry about unnecessary data usage.
In addition, TripMode shows how much data you have used for the selected period (current, daily, monthly), so you have an overview of your mobile internet usage. Signaling, when the icon in the top bar flashes red, may also be useful for someone - this is in the event that an application without Internet access requests it.
When traveling, whether in the Czech Republic or abroad, where the prices for each transferred megabyte are still much higher, you will find an invaluable helper in TripMod, thanks to which you can save hundreds of crowns in the end.
That's why the price of the app doesn't seem unreasonable either - 190 crowns is certainly less than what TripMode can save. You can download TripMode from the developer's website. In addition, there is also a free version where TripMode can be used without restrictions for a week and then every day for 15 minutes, which is more than enough for many users.
does it only work for mobile hotspot or any wifi? In the case of a Wi-Fi LTE modem, OS X detects Wi-Fi as normal and synchronizes everything in it. photos.app etc. Then only Little Snitch and automatic profile switching help
I find it unbelievable that when I turn on the mobile hotspot, application updates start downloading in the background and then suddenly beep beep beep, text messages in quick succession and suddenly my mobile tariff is exhausted .. does it work for this too?
I bought the application about a month ago, I have internet via WiFi at the cottage, but the hotspot is a box with a 3G card. But OSX doesn't know that it's a mobile connection, it looks like a standard wifi and I also made sure that OSX doesn't download everything in the background on this connection like on broadband. It works perfectly, complete overview of which application tries to download what - in principle, if any application tries to download something from the net, it is prohibited by default in the list, it must be allowed manually. When someone somewhere is trying to connect, the icon will start flashing red. I recommend.
