Imagine you are driving in a car. You have the radio on, listening to music, and suddenly that song starts playing that you couldn't find anywhere. Of course, all of us know that it is very dangerous to use the phone while driving. Therefore, we can use Siri to tell us the name of the currently playing song. Does this feature remind you of Shazam? Correctly. Siri is connected to Shazam and can communicate with it - not even when Shazam was bought by Apple a few months ago.

How to ask Siri what song is playing?

  • We activate Siri – either we pronounce the connection  "Hey Siri!" or we use the home button or power button to call it up
  • Now we say one of the commands to Siri: "What song is playing?" "What is currently playing?" or "Name that tune."  Of course, there are more commands that you can use. However, these 3 are the most used in my opinion.
  • After that, just approach the sound source and wait a while
  • In no time, Siri should have the song discern (if it doesn't recognize it, try again)

We can then recognize the song to purchase in Apple Music or we can look at it in the Shazam app, if we have it installed.

In conclusion, just for the sake of interest, I would say that Siri uses Shazam to recognize the currently playing song. If you don't know yet, a few months ago Apple just bought Shazam, for some 400 million dollars.
