I admit I was scared. We did not have a guarantee of how well the 5x telephoto lens of the iPhone 15 Pro Max would take pictures. In addition, there was a big gap between 2x and 5x zoom, when it turned out to be 3x. But how did it turn out? See for yourself.

It could have been a fiasco, but on the other hand, it turned out even better than expected. So we bring two essential answers to the most burning questions: "Yes, the 5x telephoto lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max takes great pictures, and yes, you get used to it so quickly that you won't even sigh after 3x zoom."

Having had the opportunity to test both the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Galaxy S23 Ultra, I know how much I enjoyed taking photos with 10x zoom. I thought how great it would be if iPhones offered more. This has now come true with the iPhone 15 Pro Max model. So it won't see as far as the mentioned Samsungs, but it doesn't matter. The five-fold zoom actually offers more, because it is still not such an extreme distance, which makes the telephoto lens more usable.

I now replace the triple zoom with the double zoom (albeit with a lot of Apple's software games and my limiting myself to the quality of the result). The new telephoto lens is not very suitable for portraits, because you have to be really far away, but it is perfect for landscapes and architects. Plus, the results are just great. It's not Samsung's 10 MPx with ƒ/4,9, but 12 MPx with ƒ/2,8, 3D optical image stabilization with sensor shift and autofocus. This is what you simply want, and for passionate mobile photographers, it can really be the impetus to reach for the larger model of the latest iPhone.

What you will 100% enjoy is the depth of field that you can achieve thanks to the 120mm focal length. You can thus give your photos an unusual look by photographing objects in the distance through those that are close to you. Although you can of course achieve a similar effect with other iPhones, the problem here is how far they can see. The objects in the distance would not be the dominant image, but just small fleas that would not stand out in any way, and you would probably delete such a photo. The sample images in the galleries present here are taken in JPG format through the native Camera application and are automatically edited in the Photos application.
