In public transport, in the doctor's waiting room, in line at the store, even in classes or lectures, we can see a large number of people focused intently on their smartphone screens. Someone is disturbed by this phenomenon, someone waves his hand over it for a change, saying that it is a phenomenon related to modern times. But what kind of time spent in the company of a smartphone is optimal and healthy?

Recently conducted extensive survey about how much time people spend on their smartphones, revealed that 54% of American teenagers and 36% of their parents feel they spend too much time on their phones. At the same time, the majority of teenagers and parents surveyed said they thought their family members were distracted by their phones during interpersonal conversations.

The aforementioned survey was conducted by the Pew Research Center among more than a thousand parents and 743 teenagers. Among other things, it was revealed that more than half of teenagers have already taken steps to reduce the amount of time they spend on their smartphones – the use of social networks and playing games proved particularly problematic. About 44% of teenagers admitted that the first thing they do in the morning after waking up is to check messages and notifications on their mobile phone. Parents of teenagers also expressed concern about the frequency of mobile phone use.

A separate survey found that parents are particularly concerned about the effects of screen time on their children. Almost two-thirds of parents surveyed said they are concerned about how much time their children spend in front of a smartphone display. 57% of parents admitted that they actively try to limit this time in some way with their children. But even parents have butter on their heads in this regard - 36% of respondents said that they spend too much time on their mobile phones. 51% of teenagers revealed that their parents even tend to focus on their phone even when their child is trying to start a conversation with them.

After all, this is also why Apple added a function called Screen Time to the new iOS 12, among other things. With its help, users will be able to better control, manage and limit the way they use their smartphone.
