The Apple Watch Series 4 has been inflected in almost every case lately. Apple presented the fourth generation of its smart watch at this year's Keynote, when it highlighted its most important function - the ability to record an ECG. However, they have also improved heart rate sensing - unlike the ECG, this function is available to all users regardless of their place of residence.

The Apple Watch Series 4 uses the Heart Rate app to measure your heart rate. If you own a fourth-generation Apple Watch with the latest version of the watchOS operating system installed, just launch the app and place your finger on the watch's digital crown. At that moment, the watch switches from measuring with the help of infrared diodes to using the electrodes of the sensor built into the digital crown.

Measuring heart rate this way is, according to Apple, significantly faster, but also more accurate, as it updates every second along the way, while the classic measurement is updated every five seconds. By placing your finger on the digital crown of your Apple Watch, you create a closed circuit between your heart and both upper limbs so that electrical impulses can be picked up.

As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, the use of this function is not conditional on the purchase of the Apple Watch Series 4 in the United States. So you can start taking advantage of the electrodes in the digital crown of your watch even if the ECG function has not yet been approved by us. When you measure your heart rate this way, the result will be recorded in the Health app with the ECG source.
