The competitive battle between music streaming services continues, and this time the Swedish Spotify is once again making itself known. This company has come up with new versions of its apps and the changes are definitely worth paying attention to. The client for OS X and iOS has been redesigned and, in addition to a significant redesign, we can also look forward to new functions. It will finally be possible to create music collections sorted by album or artist.

The new look of the iOS client is undoubtedly inspired by the flat and colorful iOS 7. It fits perfectly into this mobile operating system, offers a clear dark environment, and practically all controls have been redrawn in a more modern guise. The font used in the application was changed, as was, for example, the shape of the performer's preview, which is now round. This helps with orientation across the app, as the album previews are square and therefore well differentiated.

Also new is the much-loved "My Music" feature. Until now, Spotify could only be used comfortably as a tool for discovering music, playing various themed playlists, and the like. Now, however, it will finally be possible to use the service as a full-fledged catalog of (cloud) music. It will now be possible to save songs to a collection and sort them by artist and album. So it will no longer be necessary to create impractical playlists for every album you want to keep in your collection. The classic adding songs to favorites (with a star) in Spotify will remain and will be supplemented with new features.

The news that this news is not available globally and immediately will probably not please you. The operator behind the Spotify service is releasing the new function gradually, and the news should reach users within the next two weeks. It is therefore not possible to say when a specific user will get the "My Music" function.

An update to the desktop application is also gradually being released. It goes hand in hand in design with its counterpart on iOS. It is also dark, flat and modern. The functionality then remained practically unchanged.
