Synology today announced the upcoming launch of DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.0 and the significant expansion of the C2 platform with four new cloud services. The DSM 7.0 system will offer users a higher level of security, improved administration functions and further deepen existing data sharing options. DSM 7.0 will thus be a significant step forward for all NAS and SAN product lines from Synology. Building on the great success of C2 Storage, Synology will also introduce new hybrid cloud products such as a new password manager, Directory-as-a-Service, cloud backup and secure file sharing solutions. Synology continues to expand the number of its data centers, to the existing centers in Frankfurt, Germany and Seattle, USA, a data center in Taiwan will now be added, which will enable the expansion of cloud services for the Asia, Pacific and Oceania region.

Close to the source: How Synology's edge solutions meet data management challenges

"The speed of generating large volumes of unstructured data is growing exponentially," said Philip Wong, CEO and founder of Synology. “Traditional centralized storage can no longer keep up with the ever-increasing bandwidth and performance demands. Edge cloud products, such as Synology's range of storage management products, are among the fastest growing segments of data storage today because they can uniquely respond to the challenges of running modern businesses.”

More than eight million Synology data management solutions have already been deployed worldwide1, all based on the DSM operating system. The world's most widely used NAS operating system, DSM uniquely combines storage capabilities, data backup and protection features, and robust synchronization and collaboration solutions. It thus enables the efficient functioning of more and more distributed workplaces and data sources. The number of downloads of Synology's add-on services, such as Synology Drive, Active Backup Suite and more, exceeds six million per month.

DSM 7.0, representing the next major step for this platform, will be released on June 292. Its launch will be accompanied by extensive new updates and the introduction of new hybrid cloud services such as Active Insight, a solution for large-scale device monitoring and diagnostics, Hybrid Share, which combines the synchronization functions and flexibility of C2 Storage with on-premise solutions, and C2 Identity , which is a hybrid cloud directory-as-a-service solution that simplifies domain management across multiple servers3. Along with improvements to the platform itself, such as support for volumes up to 1 PB for super-large workloads, DSM 7.0 also introduces security improvements in the form of Secure SignIn. This brand new verification system makes two-step verification as simple and easy as possible.

New C2 solutions and data center

C2 Password, C2 Transfer and C2 Backup stand-alone solutions will be introduced immediately after, which represent the answer to the modern needs of password protection, sensitive file sharing and backup of any endpoint and common SaaS cloud services.

"With the knowledge and experience gained over four years of building and operating our cloud service, we can introduce an innovative solution offering a reliable and extremely competitive solution in terms of price," said Wong. "We are now on a path of rapid development into other areas where we can reach new potential users."

"DSM 7.0 and the C2 service extension reflect Synology's new approach to data management," said Wong. "We will continue to push the boundaries in the area of tighter integration and make the most of the advantages of interconnecting local and cloud infrastructures."
