Similar to the summaries of speculations from last week, today's article will also talk about this year's iPhones, but this time in a context in which we have not yet discussed the iPhone 14 in this column. It is rumored that one special model should appear in this year's range of Apple smartphones. The second part of the article will talk about the future AirPods, which could theoretically offer a completely new way of verifying the user's identity.

A new way to verify your identity with AirPods

At the moment, Apple offers the option of verifying the user's identity either with a fingerprint or by scanning the face via the Face ID function on selected devices. IN early future but perhaps we could also wait for authentication through wireless AirPods headphones. Their next models could be equipped with special biometric sensors that would verify a user's identity by scanning the shape of the inside of their ear before gaining access to sensitive data such as messages. Scanning could be done with the help of an ultrasound signal. The possible introduction of a new way of verifying the user's identity via headphones is indicated by a newly registered patent in which the mentioned technology is described. However, as in all similar cases, it should also be added that patent registration alone does not guarantee its future implementation.

iPhone 14 without a SIM card slot

So far, the speculation regarding this year's iPhones has mostly dealt with its design, or the question of the location of sensors for Face ID. But she appeared during the past week interesting news, according to which we could theoretically wait for the arrival of a special model of the iPhone 14, which should completely lack the traditional physical SIM card slot.

Citing reliable sources, MacRumors reported that carriers in the United States are already starting to prepare to start selling "e-SIM only" smartphones, with sales of these models expected to start in September this year. On this topic, analyst Emma Mohr-McClune of GlobalData pointed out that Apple is most likely not going to completely switch to iPhones without physical SIM cards, but that it should only be an option for one of this year's models. Apple first introduced the possibility of using eSIM with the arrival of the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR in 2018, but these models also had classic physical slots.
