Another week is almost upon us, and with it comes time for our regular roundup of Apple-related speculation. First, we will talk about two different patents - one related to the possible elimination of the notch in future iPhones, the other with future HomePods. But we will also mention the cameras iPhone 13.

Light sensors in the iPhone display

Ever since the release of the iPhone X, Apple has been making its smartphones with a notch at the top of the display. In this cut-out there are sensors and other components necessary for the operation of the Face ID function. However, cutouts bother many users for many different reasons, so according to available reports, Apple is still trying to explore different options for incorporating the aforementioned sensors into their iPhones without the need for a cutout. In early March, Apple registered a patent that describes the possibility of implementing light sensors under the display of smartphones. The system should consist of photodiodes or small solar units that, with the help of an electrical signal, should detect the color and intensity of the light falling on the display. The mentioned system could then serve a number of different purposes, from a depth sensor to an iris or retina sensor to a biometric measurement system.

HomePod with display

In addition to iPhones, Apple also plans to improve its HomePods. According to recent reports, Apple is currently investigating a way to create a mesh case for the classic HomePod or HomePod mini. It would also serve to display some information. Apple previously filed a patent that describes touch-responsive mesh. If the company were to succeed in combining both patented technologies in practice, we could possibly expect smart speakers in the future that would be completely covered by a special mesh without a touch surface on their upper part. Although there is not a single word about the HomePod in the aforementioned patent, Apple describes a "voice-controlled speaker" in it, which could be "characterized by a cylindrical shape".

The cameras of this year's iPhones

New information regarding the cameras of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max appeared on the Internet this week. According to available information, these should be equipped with ultra-wide-angle, wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The ultra-wide and wide-angle lens should also feature improved sensor-shift stabilization for better stabilization and autofocus. There should also be an improvement in brightness with the ultra-wide-angle lens. Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also confirms the improvement of the ultra-wide-angle and wide-angle lenses of this year's iPhone models in his reports.
