Instagram has long since gone beyond its original intention of simply sharing photos and grown to somewhat more comprehensive dimensions. In addition, its functions are constantly being improved and, of course, new ones are also coming. Here you will find a list of several of those that are going to be added to the network in the near future, or have been implemented in the past.

Service Outage Notification

Instagram is already testing a feature that will notify you when there is a service outage or some technical problem. It should do so with the help of notifications, but not every time. You will be notified only after the network has judged it to be appropriate - specifically, if it has determined that users of the service are confused and looking for answers to what is currently happening with the network. Before the feature is deployed globally, it will be tested in the US for the next few months.

Account balance

Account Status is meant to be your point of contact to see what's going on with your account and content distribution. Primarily, you should see here that someone flagged your post as inappropriate, and that Instagram will take some action against you – such as removing or having already removed the post, as well as your account being at risk of being deactivated for some reason. Of course, there is also the possibility to appeal. You can already find your account status in Instagram in Settings and the Account menu. However, Instagram still wants to improve this section.

Creating parental control tools

After a wave of outrage, Instagram scrapped its upcoming Kids platform, which would have allowed children under the age of thirteen to be part of the Instagram community. So it is now focusing its energies more on developing at least a way for parents to monitor what their children over the age of thirteen are watching on the platform. As part of the safety of minors, Instagram has already taken certain steps. This is the automatic setting of the profile of users under the age of sixteen as private. Those over the age of eighteen cannot send messages to those under this age either.

Sensitive content

This new feature gives you control over the display of sensitive content that you might find sensitive or offensive. If you want to view the sensitive content check, it's already available in the in-app menu. Go to your profile, tap the Settings menu in the upper right corner, and tap Account, where the Sensitive Content Settings are located. Here you can decide whether to leave the settings in their default state (Restriction), or whether you want to display more potentially inappropriate content (Allow) or, conversely, less of some types of sensitive content (Restrict even more). You can change your selection at any time, but in relation to the point above, the Allow option is not available to persons under 18 years of age.

Sharing stories

In the territory of Brazil, the function related to the sharing of Stories is already being tested only for a selected group of users. With the "Close Friends" feature, you can only share stories with the same list of friends without being able to edit it. This way you will be able to add, remove or keep people on the list with different stories of yours using the scheduled news.
