It's hard to say whether emojis are more important to users themselves, or rather to individual tech companies. While the number of emojis that the vast majority of adult users use in everyday life could certainly be counted on the fingers of one hand, Google currently has less than a thousand of them on offer. But apparently she is not too satisfied with them, because she is going to revise them in the foreseeable future, so that, according to her own words, they are more universal and authentic. In the second part of our Monday roundup, we'll talk about Xiaomi and how well it did in terms of smartphone sales in the second quarter of this year.

Xiaomi is the second largest smartphone seller

Xiaomi has become the second largest smartphone seller in the world. Sales of its smart mobile phones during the second quarter of this year earned it the silver rank on the imaginary ranking. According to a report by Canalys, Xiaomi now boasts a 17% share of the global smartphone market.

Xiaomi products:

The golden rank was defended by Samsung with a 19% share, Apple fell from the original second place to the bronze position with a 14% share, Oppo and Vivo took the fourth and fifth place with a share of around 10%. All five companies saw a year-on-year increase in smartphone sales, but this increase was particularly significant for Xiaomi - compared to the second quarter of 2020, sales increased by a respectable 83%, Samsung by 15% and Apple by 1%. Canalys Research manager Ben Stanton confirmed that Xiaomi is experiencing rapid sales growth, especially overseas. According to Canalys, the second quarter of this year saw a total increase in smartphone sales of 12%.

Google is changing its emoji, it wants more authenticity

Google is redesigning all of its 992 emoji. The goal is to make emoticons more "universal, accessible and authentic". Google emoji in its new form will be publicly available this fall with the arrival of the Android 12 operating system, and the change will also affect other applications and services from Google, such as the Gmail email service, Google Chat, the Chrome OS operating system or for example live chat with YouTube videos.

In the mentioned places, we will meet the revised emoji already during this month. According to Google, these will not be significantly drastic changes in any case. Emojis will be redesigned so that their meaning is easier to understand at first glance, and individual images are more universal. In the case of some emoji, certain elements will be highlighted so that they are easily recognizable even on smaller displays. Changing the look of emoji is not unusual for a number of tech companies. Mostly in this direction various inaccuracies are adjusted, sometimes companies change their emoticons based on suggestions from users.
