In today's roundup of the day's news, we will mainly talk about social networks - while Instagram is trying to reduce the number of videos reshared from TikTok, Facebook is trying to reduce the number of political posts for a change. In addition, there will also be talk about retro games for the Nintendo Switch console or the upcoming wall-mounted smart speaker from Amazon, which is supposed to function as a control center for a smart home with the possibility of video calls.

Instagram mutes TikTok videos

In recent months, the sharing of videos that were originally uploaded to the social network TikTok has boomed on Instagram. Videos of this type most often appear in the Reels section of Instagram, but the management of Instagram did not like this very much, and therefore they will limit this practice. Although TikTok is not the only platform whose videos also appear in Instagram posts, it is the dominant one here. Instagram users have therefore been asked not to use the platform to recycle TikTok videos. In addition, Instagram will soon gain the ability to automatically recognize videos that contain the TikTok watermark and stop showing them outside of the user's closest followers. According to Instagram management, recycled videos have a negative effect on the perception of the quality of the Reels feature. In addition to the aforementioned warning, Instagram also provided users with some useful advice on how to make Reels more successful. These include, for example, favoring vertical videos, using your own music or original audio, or using various post trends.

Nintendo brings SNES games to Switch

The community of owners of Nintendo's Switch game console is truly diverse, and a significant part of it is made up of long-time Nintendo fans who suffer from nostalgia. The company recently decided to meet them and announced that it will soon add games from its NES and SNES consoles to the offer of its Switch Online game service. Titles coming to Switch Online in the foreseeable future include 1992's Psycho Dream, 1992's Doomsday Warrior, 1995's Prehistorik Man, and 1992's Fire 'n' Ice. the most famous names, but the users will definitely be entertained. However, it is speculated that the offer of the Switch Online game service could also expand in the future to include titles from other consoles, such as the iconic Nintendo 64.

Wall-mounted smart speaker from Amazon

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported this week that Amazon is preparing a wall-mounted version of its Echo smart speaker. This version should work as a control center for a smart home. The display should reach 10" or 13" and of course the integrated virtual assistant Alexa must not be missing either. With the help of this speaker, users could then easily control individual elements of their smart homes - for example, lights or sockets. In addition, they will be able to control the playback of videos or music and possibly check the calendar for upcoming events. The device should also include a camera and microphone array for video chat. The mentioned speaker should see the light of day at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, its price could be between 200-250 dollars.

Facebook is testing a reduction in the number of political posts

People share all kinds of content on Facebook. In addition to photos of self-baked bread, snowy streets or various quizzes, there are also often posts related to politics. But Facebook has decided to limit them - so far only in test mode and in a few selected regions. Starting this week, Facebook in Canada, Brazil and Indonesia will begin testing how users will react to reducing the number of posts about politics in the posts feed. The test phase should last several months, allegedly prompted by repeated complaints from users about the too frequent occurrence of political-type content. According to data from Facebook, political posts make up about 6% of all content, but this is apparently too much for users.
