One of the topics at the beginning of this week was Sunday's Academy Awards. Today we cannot avoid the Oscars even in our summary of the day - because this year they went not only to pictures intended for television or cinemas, but also to films from various streaming applications. Even the social network Facebook received a golden statuette this year. In the second part of our today's summary of the day, we will again talk about the WhatsApp application. It once introduced a feature to automatically delete messages after seven days, and now it looks like it might also offer a feature to set auto-delete after twenty-four hours in the future.

Oscar for Netflix and Facebook

Along with the huge boom in various streaming services, it became clear that film prices of all kinds will no longer be limited to content shown in theaters or broadcast on television. The 25rd Academy Awards ceremony took place on April 93, and the awardees included the streaming service Netflix, or its content, among others. Netflix captured a total of seven golden statuettes, and one of this year's Oscars even went to the social network Facebook. She won it for the twenty-five-minute film Colette, which is supported by the VR group Oculus and the game studio EA Respawn Entertainment. The film takes place during World War II and tells the story of a young French girl, Colette Marin-Catherine.

Netflix had the most Oscar nominations - thirty-five in total. In the end, the film Mank won the statue for the best set and decoration and for the best cinematography, and the award for the best documentary film was awarded to My Octopus Teacher. The Oscar for the best animated short was won by the film I love you no matter what, and the short film Two Distant Strangers also took home the statuette. Netflix wasn't the only streaming service whose content was honored with a legendary golden statuette at this year's Academy Awards. For example, the film Soul, which is currently in the program offer of the streaming service Disney+, also won two Oscars this year. Among the winners was also the film Metal produced by Amazon Studios.

New WhatsApp feature

Although the popularity of the communication application WhatsApp is constantly decreasing due to new rules of use, its creators do not give up despite this (or maybe because of this) and constantly try to bring new features and improvements to users. At the end of last week, information began to appear on technology servers that the disappearing message function could finally be introduced in WhatsApp, which, for example, the competing application Telegram can boast of.

At the moment, it is possible to set the automatic deletion of messages after seven days for individual conversations on WhatsApp, but many users are calling for WhatsApp to set more options in this direction, such as automatic deletion after 24 hours. Last week, WABetaInfo published information that this feature is coming to WhatsApp in the version for iOS devices, but it is not yet clear when we will see this feature. Despite the new features, the communication platform WhatsApp has had to face a massive outflow of users since the beginning of this year. This is primarily due to its new conditions of use, which cause many people to worry about the threat to their privacy. Among other things, the new conditions of use of WhatsApp were also responsible for the fact that the popularity of competing applications, such as Signal or Telegram, skyrocketed at the beginning of this year.
