Due to the thematic focus of our server, we rarely inform you about news related to the Android operating system on the Jablíčkář website. But sometimes we make an exception - like today, when we're bringing you news of a remarkable, widespread issue with some apps that's been affecting Android smartphone owners. Another topic of our today's roundup will be the acquisition that Microsoft is reportedly planning to implement. Similar to the recent case of Bethesda, it will now be a matter related to the gaming industry - because it is speculated that Microsoft is taking a liking to the communication platform Discord. The latest news is an upcoming game in augmented reality, which is being developed by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo.

Problems with Android applications

At the beginning of this week, owners of smartphones with the Android operating system began to complain a lot about the fact that applications such as Gmail, Google Chrome, but also Amazon are constantly "kneeling" on them. According to available information, the culprit was a bug that was in the previous version of Android System WebView, which is a system component that allows Android applications to display content from the web. The first problems of this type began to appear for some users already on Monday afternoon and often lasted several hours.

Users complained about the mentioned error, for example, on the social network Twitter or on the discussion platform Reddit. Owners of Samsung, Pixel and other smartphones were affected. Google subsequently issued a statement apologizing for the complications caused by the bug and saying it was working hard to fix it. In their own words, users found it useful to find the Android System WebView item in the Google Play Store and update it manually, and the same thing had to be done in the case of the Google Chrome application.

Microsoft is reportedly considering acquiring Discord

The Discord communication platform has gained great popularity especially among computer game players or streamers. Speculation began this week that Microsoft itself would be interested in the acquisition of this platform, which this year, for example, also decided to buy the game company Bethesda. Bloomberg reported yesterday that Microsoft could buy Discord for more than ten million dollars, citing well-informed sources in its report. For a change, VentureBeat magazine reported that Discord was looking for a buyer, and that negotiations were nearing a successful conclusion, even before the publication of Bloomberg's report. Neither Microsoft nor Discord have commented on the potential acquisition at the time of writing.

Niantic is preparing another augmented reality game

Less than five years after the launch of Pokémon Go, Niantic has announced that it is partnering with Nintendo. A brand new game title from the Nintendo Pikmin franchise is to emerge from this collaboration. In this context, the company Niantic stated that the development of the mentioned game will take place in its Tokyo headquarters, and the game as such should see the light of day later this year. According to Niantic, the game should include specific activities that will force players to walk outside and that will also make walking more enjoyable. Niantic also stated that the game will - similar to Pokémon Go - take place in part in augmented reality. Although the mentioned Pokémon Go game has its days of glory behind it, it is still a very good source of income for its creators.
