The beginning of next year is still far away, but we can already tell you that you can look forward to at least one return of the traditional event "to normal". It will be the popular tech trade show CES, whose organizers confirmed yesterday that the event will be held "offline". In addition to this news, in our review today we bring you a report on how the sales of the PlayStation 5 game console have fared, as well as a new feature on the Netflix streaming service.

When will CES go “offline”?

This year's edition of the popular Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was held exclusively online. The reason was the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, a number of journalists and manufacturers have repeatedly asked themselves when the traditional version of this popular fair will be held. Its organizers officially announced yesterday that we will most likely see it next year. “We are thrilled to be able to return to Las Vegas, which has been the home of CES for more than forty years. We are looking forward to seeing many new and familiar faces." Gary Shapiro, CTA president and chief executive officer, said in an official statement today. The plan to return to the traditional format of CES in 2022 is a longer-term issue - the organizers decided on this date as early as July 2020. CES 2022 will be held from January 5 to 8, and will also include presentations in a digital format . Confirmed participants include, for example, Amazon, AMD, AT&T, Dell, Google, Hyundai, IBM, Intel, Lenovo, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung or even Sony.

Millions of PlayStation 5 consoles sold

Sony said in the middle of this week that it managed to sell a total of 5 million units of the PlayStation 7,8 from the time of its launch to the end of March this year. By the end of 2020, Sony sold 4,5 million units of its PlayStation 5, then 3,3 million units from January to March. But the company also boasted about other numbers - the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers rose to 47,6 million, which means an increase of 14,7% compared to last year. Business in the field of PlayStation - that is, not only from the sale of consoles as such, but also from the operation of the mentioned service PlayStation Plus - brought Sony a total operating profit of 2020 billion dollars for 3,14, which means a new record for Sony. At the same time, the PlayStation 5 won the title of the fastest-selling game console in the United States. The PlayStation 4 game console didn't do badly either - it managed to sell one million units during the last quarter.

New Netflix feature

The popular streaming service Netflix started rolling out a brand new service to users this week. The novelty is called Play Someting and it is a function that offers users to automatically play other content. As part of the Play Something feature, Netflix will offer users both series and feature films. Users around the world will soon be able to see a new button in the Netflix interface - it can be found in several different places, such as the left sidebar or the tenth row on the app's home page. Netflix has been testing the new function for a long time, during the testing it managed to change the name several times. Owners of smart TVs with the Netflix application will be among the first to see the new function, followed by users with smart devices with the Android operating system.
