Even though we didn't hear anything about new Find features in the WWDC21 keynote, that doesn't mean they won't be present. With iOS 15, Apple will also improve its localization platform. But it is perhaps a shame that we will have to wait until autumn to locate disabled or deleted devices and notify the department.

Find in iOS 15 will now be able to locate a device that is turned off or has been remotely wiped. The first case is useful in a situation where the device has a low battery capacity and discharges, i.e. turns off. The app will probably show the last known location. The second case refers to the fact that even after erasing the device, it will not be possible to deactivate the tracking.

To ensure that no one buys a stolen device that is still locked to the original owner's Apple ID, the splash screen “Hello” will clearly show that the given device is locked, can be located by the Find service and, above all, is still owned by someone. This is therefore another step in Apple's fight against its devices becoming the target of potential thieves, thereby practically disincentivizing them to make unauthorized gains.

Notify when they fall behind

However, iOS 15's Find Me service will learn to alert you when you literally leave some of your devices behind. The feature is called "Notify When Left Behind" and will include a switch that, when turned on, will notify you of separation from the device, AirTag, or compatible third-party items that work with the Find Network. You can even set exceptions for certain locations here, typically home, office, etc.

But all of this points to the fact that these notifications, which third-party devices have been able to do for many years, will be brought by Apple only with the iOS 15 update. This means that we will not see said news until September of this year at the earliest, if you do not want to install beta versions of the system . Apple should finally rethink the logic of its native titles and start distributing them "outside" the system, so that it can provide updates to them independently of updating the system itself.
