Skype is still one of the most popular communication tools today, although its popularity has declined in recent years. That is also why Microsoft tries to make its service as pleasant as possible for users and offers it the web version of Skype. However, this is now becoming unavailable for Safari users on Mac

Skype for Web is useful in many ways, the biggest of which is clearly the absence of the need to download and install any application. Microsoft tries to constantly improve the web version of its client and recently introduced a new version. Along with that, the service stopped supporting Safari on Mac, and when trying to log in, the user is recommended to either use the desktop application or install another browser.

The Redmond company said in a statement to VentureBeat she explained, that Skype for Web now uses a new framework for making calls that works differently across browsers and its implementation cannot be generalized in any way. Therefore, Microsoft preferred its own and most popular browsers, i.e. Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, over Safari.

Safari support is not expected any time soon, and Mac owners have to reach for an application for macOS or browsers built on the open-source Chromium project, which include Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or perhaps Brave, Vivaldi or Opera.

In addition to the absence of Safari support, the web version of Skype also received several useful improvements with the latest version. These include, for example, support for video calls in HD resolution, the ability to record calls or redesigned notifications.
