FaceTime experienced a security bug this week. In response to this unpleasant incident, Apple decided to take the group FaceTime call function completely offline. The company promised to fix the bug earlier, but didn't share details at the time.
A rather fundamental flaw in the FaceTime functionality manifested itself in the fact that the caller could hear the called party even before the user on the other end accepted the call. It was enough to start a video call with anyone from the contact list via FaceTime, swipe the screen upwards and choose to add a user. After adding your own phone number, a group FaceTime call was started without the caller answering, so the caller could hear the other party immediately.
The unavailability of a group FaceTime call was officially confirmed by Apple on its website. Despite this measure, however, some users report that they still see the mentioned error - this is also confirmed by the editors of the server 9to5Mac. Therefore, it is possible that Apple is making the relevant changes more slowly and gradually, and users are therefore advised to completely disable the Group FaceTime calling service.
Apple has not yet provided any information on when the service will be fully available again. A full security bug fix is expected to arrive in one of the next updates. Apple promised to release this later this week.
We used group Face Time basically as a video call in the sign language of the deaf, for which we do not need an auditory call at all. These group video calls were excellent in a multi-national hearing impaired=deaf group. For the Apple team to consider: How about continuing to provide this service without audio as a FaceTime videogroup?
I wonder why Apple didn't announce that this is the newest, most amazing and best bug in the world and all those trolls who eat Apple would still applaud them :D :D … Idiots on both sides :D
