With SharePlay, all participants in a FaceTime call can listen to music together or watch movies and TV shows and play games in sync. You can simply add music to the shared queue, easily send the video of the call to the TV, etc. Here are 10 questions and answers on SharePlay that will clarify some of the rules of this function.

What operating system do I need?

iOS or iPadOS 15.1 or later and Apple TV with tvOS 15.1 or later. In the future, macOS Monterey will also support the feature, but it will have to wait until Apple releases an update to that system that teaches it this feature.

What equipment do I need?

In the case of iPhones, it is iPhone 6S and later and iPhone SE 1st and 2nd generation, SharePlay also supports iPod touch 7th generation. iPads include iPad Air (2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation), iPad mini (4th, 5th, and 6th generation), iPad (5th generation and later), 9,7" iPad Pro, 10,5 .11" iPad Pro, and 12 and 4" iPad Pros. For Apple TV, these are HD and 2017K models (2021) and (XNUMX).

What Apple apps are supported?

SharePlay is fully compatible with Apple Music, Apple TV and, in those countries where the platform is available, Fitness+. Then there's screen sharing.

What other apps are supported?

Disney+, ESPN+, HBO Max, Hulu, MasterClass, Paramount+, Pluto TV, SoundCloud, TikTok, Twitch, Heads Up! and of course more because they are increasing every day. Spotify, for example, should also work on support. It is still a big unknown for Netflix, because it has not commented on the question of support.

Do I need my own subscription for Apple Music and Apple TV?

Yes, and this is the case with any subscription-based services, including those from third parties. If you do not have access to the shared content, that is, it is paid for and you are not paying for it, you will be prompted to arrange for it by ordering a subscription, purchasing content, or starting a free trial (if available).

Can I control the content even if someone else is playing it?

Yes, because the playback controls are common to everyone, so anyone can start, pause or skip back and forward. However, changing settings such as closed captions or volume will only be reflected on your device, not everyone on the call.

Can I talk while playing content?

Yes, if you and your friends start talking while watching, SharePlay will automatically lower the volume of the show, music or movie and increase the volume of your voices. Once you've finished speaking, the content's audio will return to normal.

Is there a chat option?

Yes, if you don't want to interrupt the playback, there is a chat window in the lower left corner of the interface where you can enter text.

How many users can join?

A group FaceTime call, of which SharePlay is a part, allows you to add an additional 32 people. Together with you, there are therefore 33 users who can be connected within one call.

Is SharePlay free?

FaceTime calls themselves take place over the data network. So if you're on Wi-Fi, then yes, in which case SharePlay is free. However, if you only rely on your operator's data, you need to take into account the data requirements of the entire solution and the loss of your FUP, which can then cost you some money in the need to increase it.
