Even Apple is not infallible, and even this company makes some mistakes here and there. But if she is eventually discovered, she is usually confronted. This is also why it offers official Apple service programs that are valid beyond the standard warranty given on the device. And currently, two programs are still running for MacBook Pro battery replacements, namely 15" and 13" without Touch Bar.

A limited number of older generation 15" MacBook Pros, i.e. those sold between September 2015 and February 2017, may suffer from overheating of the battery, which can lead to a risk of fire. So if you're eligible for a battery replacement, Apple will replace it for free, even if your computer is no longer under warranty. But first, you need to check what model of device you are actually using.

To do this, select in the upper left corner of the system Apple logo, and select a menu About this Mac. Here you will see the name of the computer under the name of the operating system in use. If you see e.g. MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), this is precisely the critical model of the computer. In any case, if you are eligible for a free MacBook battery replacement, you need to visit this website Apple support enter the serial number of the computer in question. You will find this in the same window as the title. After entering the number, just select Send.

Apple itself states that for security reasons it is necessary to stop using a computer that is part of this program. Even so, he recommends making a data backup before handing the computer in for service. Your battery will be replaced at an authorized Apple service provider. Expect it to take 3 to 5 days.

13" MacBook Pro (without Touch Bar)

The battery problem also affects the more common MacBook, namely the 13" model without the Touch Bar. With it, Apple discovered that the failure of one component can cause the built-in battery to grow. According to him, it is not a security problem, but he prefers to replace the battery itself for free. Here we are dealing with computers manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017, and here everything is verified based on the serial number (Apple logo in the upper left corner -> About this Mac). You can find out again on the website whether the service program also applies to your 13" MacBook without Touch Bar Apple support.

You can also find the replacement procedure here, i.e. contacting an authorized service center that will replace your battery. Even in this case, you should back up your data, and here, too, the service should take place within 5 days. If you have already had the battery replaced at your own expense, you can ask Apple for a refund. There is no time limit on the service of the 15" MacBook, because its problem is more serious. In the case of a 13" MacBook Pro without Touch Bar, however, you only have until the beginning of October to report the problem, because the program only runs for 5 years from the start of the first sale of this machine. So if you own it, you shouldn't miss this last chance.
