It looks like last year's holidays were spent on the field of Samsung-branded smartphones. The Korean company beat Apple in the number of smartphone sales during the pre-Christmas period, which happened for the first time since 2015.

According to the analytics company IDC Apple sold a total of 2018 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of 68,4, which represents a decrease of 11,5% compared to 2017. Samsung also decreased, specifically by 5,5%, but sold 70,4 million phones. In the fourth quarter of 2017, Apple performed significantly better. It sold 77,3 million iPhones, beating Samsung by 2,8 million.

The second place belongs to the Apple company, despite the fact that Huawei managed to beat it in terms of sales in 2018, but Apple did better again during the holidays. However, according to analysts, sales of iPhones may still fall in 2019, and the main reason for this should be the 5G modem, which this year's iPhones will probably lack. Apple is currently suing Qualcomm, which is currently the only manufacturer of 5G chips, and Apple will thus have to rely on Intel, which will not be able to deliver the mentioned modems before 2020.

Android phones will likely have a significant advantage. It is quite possible that Samsung Galaxy Note 11, the new Google Pixel or Huawei Mate Pro will support 5G networks, and a user who lives in a "5G ready" city will prefer them to an Apple phone.
