Apple has decided that in Safari 10, which will arrive within the new macOS Sierra, will prefer HTML5 over all other plugins such as Flash, Java, Silverlight or QuickTime. It will only run if the user allows it.

Prioritizing HTML5 in the new Safari over other technologies he revealed on the WebKit blog, Apple developer Ricky Mondello. Safari 10 will run primarily on HTML5, and any page that will have elements that will require one of the mentioned plugins to run will have to get an exception.

If an element requests, for example, Flash, Safari first announces with a traditional message that the plugin is not installed. But you can activate it by clicking on the given element - either once or permanently. But as soon as the element is also available in HTML5, Safari 10 will always offer this more modern implementation.

Safari 10 won't be just for macOS Sierra. It will also appear for OS X Yosemite and El Capitan, beta versions should be available during the summer. Apple is making the move to favor HTML5 over older technologies mainly to improve security, performance, and battery life.
